Christmas and New Year ???

I realize that it's a little early to mention, (or is it ?) that some wanderers, like myself, are, for various reasons, somewhat at a loose end at that time of the year. It has been many many years since I have "Christmas'd" (?) with anyone, never mind seeing in New Year. So, I was just wondering if there is somewhere on this side of the island, preferably, where it is cool, like the high country of Vic; or NSW, (???) where some G/N's gather. However, I must emphasize that my "raging" days are long gone, so a quiet cuppa will do. (This boring old fart doesn't drink!) Anyway, it's just a thought. Regards. "Pipes"

Hi pipes, perhaps consider Greens Lake for Christmas and New Year.
Every other year I usually sit at home watching TV on New years Eve, have done nothing else for years.
Last NYE I spent out at Greens with other grey nomads. I had the most memorable eveing I can remember. I don't drink, not for any particular reason. You can still join in with a cuppa in your hand.
It was very crowded on NYE but was worth every minute just to experience. Will be there again this year.
I am sure there will be quite a few Grey Nomads there on Christmas Day as well. I know I will be there for part of it.

Hi Pipes,

I have to totally agree with Happywanderer.

Two years ago we were at Greens Lake for New Year. Neither my husband or i drink, but we had the best

night. Just watching everyone have a good time...and with no problems....i can thoroughly recommend it

as well, one we will remember for a very long time.

And yes.....we saw in the New Year with cuppa in hand as well !!!

Cheers Jan

I'll be back in Qld by then, but you've given me the thought of perhaps organising something in SEQ. Near water is always good at that time of year.

Dawa, I mentioned it in one of your other threads about a freecamp for long term being a great spot for you.
Its on the road between Shepparton and Elmore, just out of Corop, not very far from where you are at the moment.,

Edit: On your thread entitled ON the River.

I too thought it a bit early so hadn't posted about it.

Anyone who would like to join my son and I are very welcome.

we don't rage or drink either but we always seem to have a good time.

Wow, that sounds like a great Christmas at Greens. I like to avoid Christmas these days, purely for a very personal reason, however Christmas around other singles, and just to have great conversation, good company, and a good time sounds like heaven. Having checked out Greens, for later reference if I ever get out on the road, sounds like the perfect place. Pipes, if I was you I would be heading to Greens Lake for that time of the year.
Never know maybe a miracle will happen and I might be able to get there too. Anyways, whoever makes it there I wish you all the very best and have a wonderful time.

Sharon.

I would like to spend Christmas camping somewhere ideally. Nothing much in the way of free camps not too far from Sydney that I know of. Vic and Qld have some great places but a bit far.

Not too many in my neck of the woods either. As I said, it's nice to have somewhere near water because it's usually very hot here at that time. I'll have to get my thinking cap on. wink

I thought I'd just done that.  If you don't understand that one, Google it yourself, and pick another site.  "Greens Lake Recreation Area."

Cheers,

Sheba.

Apologies if my responses came across a bit sharp - but there is a wealth of information on Greens Lake on the site - put Greens Lake into the "search" area, and you will find a heap of info re camping there, with some great photos as well, of a lot of people having a heap of fun.

Will be in Tassie over the Christmas New Year period and expect to spend it with Billeeee & Jules I am sure that if there are other Grey Nomads in Tassie at that time they will be welcome too. No idea where but Billeeee will sort that out in his inimitable style.

Last Christmas was very hectic for me. I had 2 jobs to Emerald so I spent Christmas at Lake Maraboon, south of Emerald, and then I high-tailed it to Greens Lake via Brisbane where I caught up with Cupie in the mean time.
Lake Maraboon is very special at this time of the year. The only people staying there are there to enjoy the season with friends and/or family. Everyone is in the same frame of mind. A bit like Greens, just having a good time with like-minded people.
Both venues are special.

OK, this is somewhat "out of left field" for a grey Nomads forum but have you thought about a Christmas Cruise?

I'm not good with boats, but some day I hope to do a short Murray River cruise. Not on the agenda for at least another year though.
