Through the wall cable fitting

Hi everyone, can someone advice me on having a "F" type weatherproof caravan wallplate entry fitted to my Jayco sterling, if someone has done this is it easy or should it be left to the professionals or is it not advisable. I want to run the cable for my satellite through the wall. Thank you.

Regards,

David

Hi David,

I bought one and fitted it myself.I just have the thought that one day I will lose the silicone seal that goes on the outside.

Fitting was simple and the biggest cost for me was my own decision to use Sikaflex to make sure the seal was completely waterproof.

Hard to find the smaller toothpaste sized tubes of the stuff.Reckon the sealer ended up the same price as the fitting.

I have had no problems in the six months or so I have had it fitted.

I would reckon that anybody that has reasonable skills wouldn't have much of a problem,as usual measure lots and drill once making sure where you want the fitting is clear on the inside.

Regards

Trevor

If you use an F connector feed through you have 2 connectors each with a dB or two loss. I use an Eze Eye through the wall fitting that allows you to feed the cable through and eliminate those losses. Go to http://www.minicompact.com.au/tv_antenna.html and look at the bottom of the page. They are no harder to fit than the one you are proposing.

I fitted Eze Eye's to my last two vans.
They're great as they cut out unnecessary cable joints.

Cheers, OJ

Bugga,

I should have done more research before I fitted the F connector. The Eze Eyes look the business ,less signal loss and just as easy to fit.I like the idea of the external flap as well.

Oh well Live and learn.

If you are worried about 1 or 2 db loss in a satalite system you have a bigger problem somewhere. On a normal satalite system you can run upto 50 meters of cable along with wallplates and other fitting all creating a db loss that wont have an effect for the viewer. I like a well sealed plate
cheers

Hi All, I just fitted 2 through the wall f types and used 2 male back to back joiners with a female thred and a twin female wall plate.

Easy to set up, get the wall plate screw the male joiners on then the female thred, cut the hole in the wall, mark the exit points make the holes just big enough for the thred to poke out side, a SS washer and a dob of good old what ever. do the nut up and its done. I just copied what was there but made it 2 ...

Together they are just the right lenth and there is little or no loss. Why, 2 vast and paytv....

Hope this helps Bob n Bev......

Job all done, I bought the through the wall fitting here in Cobar Electronics and my neighbour next to me is a retired builder, this chap, Graham is his name - had drill, drill bits and chisels, he fitted it for me he also had some sealer it truly is a fabuolous job I am so grateful, there was no way the wife was going to let me do it on my own  - he did make it look easy but as I said I am most grateful.
