Missing Chidlow Man - Rod Base and his Dark Blue Holden Colorado MDG348A

Chidlow man Rod Base and his Dark Blue Colorado Ute are still missing, if sighted in your travels please contact police urgently, see this link for details/rego etc;

http://www.missingpersons.gov.au/missing-persons/profiles/profiles/b/a/base%20roderick%20herbert%20william.aspx

" Rod left his home in Chidlow on the morning of 13 November 2011. He was driving his 2009 dark blue Holden Colorado Ute registration MDG348A. The vehicle had an alloy roo bar with spotlights and a black tonneau cover on the rear. Despite extensive inquiries neither Rod nor his vehicle has been located. There are serious concerns for his welfare."

No it certainly doesn't look any brighter than my last report.cry

His wife is bearing up although she has her ups and downs which is natural.  A group of us spent time with her yesterday doing a busy bee at her place in Chidlow large rural block, too much for one person to manage on their own.  Two beaut dogs she has too which are good company for her, not to mention good watch dogs......blankstare

Sadly I have just been informed that the body of Rod has been found in his vehicle in bushland north of Perth.

No other details are known at this stage.

Thanks to all those who kept an eye out for Rod and his vehicle during your travels.

Sad to here, but at least there is closure, rather than never knowing what happened. My condolences to the family. I saw the posters as this is not far from home.

Thanks for the condolences, I will pass them on.

The only other info I have is that he was found in thick bushland near Toodyay and was found by people collecting wood.

RIP Rod

Yes, very sad FF, but at least his wife now knows he won't be coming home and what his fate was, not that it makes things any easier but would give her some closure.

Very difficult times for her, before and now.

Funeral info for Rod, assume the papers will be The West Australian and local area papers for Chidlow;

Notices will be in the paper from tomorrow on and Rods funeral notice will be in the paper next week. His funeral will be on Thursday 18th October at Lake Leschenaultia at 1100hrs.

For those who may be interested, there is a change of funeral plans due to Shire regulations etc, see below extract of updated info from his wife Robyn;

"The date for the funeral is still Thursday the 18th October  at 1100hrs.

However just today I have had to rethink the actual location.

The Funeral Notice will be in the West Australian on 10 October, and it will be absolutely correct!

I am still in the throes of looking at an alternative venue, so keep an eye on the paper.  It is still most likely to be up this way!!"

RE: Missing Chidlow Man - Rod Base and his Dark Blue Holden Colorado MDG348A - Now Found

Just letting you know Rods funeral was held today at Robyn and Rod's rural home at Chidlow.  It was held in a beautiful garden setting with traffic control and a guard of honour provided by combined Bush Fire Brigade volunteers including Chidlow branch which Rod belonged to.

The coffin with Rods remains was present and the funeral held by a Funeral group with a non religious service by a Celebrant.  Rods family from the UK were also there.

After the service, Rods coffin was driven away by the Funeral directors with a Fire Brigade escort off the property on its way to a private family cremation later in the day.

Everyone then attended the Chidlow Community Hall in Old Northam Road for a light lunch in remembrance of Rod.

The Bush Fire Brigade crews were terrific in helping out at Robyns home and the later luncheon, a fine tribute to one of their own volunteers who was no longer with them.

Rod also worked full time for one of our major hospitals in WA on the medical side, and many of his work mates were there as well, a very popular person and loved by many.  Still don't know why he did it, we may never know.

I agree it is very sad indeed and makes a person realise just how fragile life can be and the effects the black dog can have on people.
