Ours was an EH Holden. My ex's father had bought it new and was the sort of man who wouldn't take it out if it was raining or whatever. He looked after it so well, it was like brand new when he updated to a Mazda in '72, and gave us the precious EH. We were rapt!
Then in the late seventies a bloke badly wanted to buy it from us, so we thought we'd update to the Kingswood wagon as our family was growing. We set a high price, which he paid, and within a month he'd written it off. We nearly cried.
My husband's first car was a blue FC Holden and mine (I didn't get my licence until I was 30!) was a light green mini. Gave it to my Uni son and he couldn't afford to register it so that was the end of it.

I had a hilux 4wd for 12years, and can trully say that they are virtually indestructable, and as reliable as the day is long.Went everywhere, from the top to the bottom and across the middle. You can,t destroy them. Have a look at the one on "TOP GEAR".They blew it up, drowned it, dropped it off a 3 story building and then drove it away! Can anybody beat that? Bill
Gee Beth, you had great taste in cars, I had an EH Special when I was 22, mine was a deep Maroon colour, with lots of shiny Chrome, lowered 2'' and had Extractors, and Twin SU Carbies, and 6'' Wide Chrome wheels, it looked fantastic, and performed pretty good for that Era ??
I also had an FC, EXACTLY THE SAME COLOUR AS YOURS, paid $300 for it in 1976, very reliable had it for 6 years and never let me down, I also had a HT but mine was a Ute, it was Alright, but not as loved as my EH and FC, So that is 3 models of cars that we had the same, Gee you had good taste dazren

My first car was a 1928 Austin 12, next was a Hillman Husky S.Wag Side valve motor, then a EH Holden s.wag, next a Ford Wagon, then a Ford Capri in British Racing Green. Then a Toyota Camry V6 (sold when it reached 300 000Klms, and is still going strong.) Latest is a Great Wall x240. Been looking for pics but can't find them. I have enjoyed every one of them and learnt different skills from each.
My very first car was an aqua coloured Morris Minor 1000. A great little car.
The ex had exactly the same one down on Macleay Island around 1970. The boys took it for a spin at the opposite end of the island one night, and rolled it, pushed the roof out again, and drove it home. Next day they cut the roof off to make it a permanent convertible. Pity I don't have a photo of it.
One could drive anything and no rego required in those days. That's where I learnt to drive when I was 16.

Gday...
My brother is restores the old Rootes Group cars (Hillman, Humber etc) and has an immaculate Hillman Husky. It was one of the cars we always wanted to own when younguns ... also the Hillman Californian.
If ya want pics of these old cars, just to go Google Images and type in the name - you will surprised how much is in there. Got a couple for ya
My first car was a mini cooper s I called it bubbles and she was nothing but trouble the engine blew up twice because the garage that worked on her forgot to put in parts, then there was a fire in the boot... the last straw was when the front wheels fell off as I stopped in front my parents home.... I walked in and gave the keys to my father (he was the one who insisted I buy it) I walked home.... not too sure what happened to bubbles after that. The charger r/t was a cool car tho :)
My first car was a Morris Minor, traded up to a 1964 Mini - pretty basic back then - starter press button on the floor - but I loved it - had another two minis after that, as well as another Morris Minor. My 18 yr old grandson has a FC Holden Wagon, HZ Holden Wagon, and has just got a TC Gemini wagon - loves his old cars.

My first car and fav of all was our 1970 xy ford fairmont 302windson v8 With Sadle tan interior! She was awesome , had her in the family for 30 years Till we sold her.
I had a purple Ford Capri in 1980. Absolutely loved it. If I ever got the chance I would look at getting one again.
I had the same car Marj only mine was lime green I loved it, ran a red light in it in Brissie one day rushing to pick kids up from school and not paying attention and hit another car side on, fortunately no one hurt but my poor capri didn't look too pretty, ended up getting it repaired in fibreglass by a guy that ran 'The Capri Club' worked out lots cheaper and looked better than new, he even put a 'hump' in the bonnet made it look much more sporty .
My favorite car of all time was an Austin Healy Sprite back in the UK, sadly it had to go when the kids came along as no room for them, only a 2 seater!!!!

When we arrived in the West Indies, Dad was given a company car in the form of a new 1960 Ford Prefect. He was told to go to the local Police Station to have his U.K. licence 'swapped'. He told the police that he only had a m/cycle licence and they said "close enough" and gave him a car licence (No test of any kind). Dad had never driven a car before let alone a manual. That poor Prefect got absolute hell (not to mention other road users). When we got back to UK, dad splashed out and bought a new car of a revolutionary type. The Morris 1100 (floats on fluid, no springs and came a radio and front seat belts!!!). This car (about the size of a Micra or 121) used to carry four kids (plus babe in arms), large dog and all our luggage when we went away on holidays. In those days it was quite legal!! Funnily enough, about the time of the Prefect, we started seeing alot of American cars in B.W.I. with the 'corner mounted' indicators such as are used today. Most European cars were still using the B Pillar ounted electric 'swing out' type. Dad told me how these new corner indicators were just a passing fad and would never catch on.
I think all my cars fit into the younger days favorites.
1963 VW Beetle (with Bug-a- Lug extractors) 1965 HD Holden Premier 1965 VW Beetle 1965 XP Ford Ute FJ Holden (Customised) (GDay) 1965 AP5 Valiant (push button) 1970 Renault 10 1972 XA Ford Panel van. 1973 HQ Holden V8 Ute 1973 Toyota Crown 1978 Honda Civic 1977 HX Holden V8 Panel Van 1972 LJ Torana GTR 1978 HZ Holden V8 Ute, chevy powered 1973 LJ Torana GTR XU1 (the real McCoy) 1982 Datsun Bluebird 1984 Toyota Tarago 1985 Ford Laser 1991 Holden Commodore 1995 Hyundai (3door) 1992 NH Pajero 1995 Hyudnai 1985 Ford Courier Ute 1997 NL Pajero (still have) Subaru Liberty (still have) 2011 Mazda 2 (still have)

Alcohol is not the answer. It only makes you forget the question.
Funny you should say that gillyb, when living in Melbourne in the late 60s, I kicked around with a friend called Suzie, She had a Austin Healey Sprite Convertible. Oh, we were the girls, hair blowing in the wind, down the highway to Ocean Grove on the weekends to stay with her grandparents. Waving to all the guys, lunch in the pubs. Those were the days.
I don't know if anyone else watches 'Heartbeat' on Ch72. Great old cars on the show, some with original number plates. It was like the older cars had 'faces' with the headlights being the eyes and the grilles the mouths. Some cars looked angry and others happy.

I can't really take credit for ALL the choices...I only had a say in the HT...which was AFTER we married. But we were definitely Holden fans.

My first car was a red 1976 LH Torana. A nice little car, but I would have preferred a silver Charger! (Should that read Chrysler Valiant Charger?)

In 1972 my driving school car was a Torana. After the big windows on our EH, I found the visibility a bit poor. Most cars are like that now anyway. (I'd already learn to drive in the EH and other vehicles 'down the island', but had a few 'proper' lessons to finish off.)
The first car I actually bought all by myself was in 1984, a red Datsun 1200. The kids and I loved that little car. I handed it over to my eldest son when I bought my 1988 Ford Laser. My very first car that had auto and aircon! What luxury!
