Left Daintree Village returned to the ferry turnoff and went across to Daintree National Park, went on several walks including the Jindalba Boardwalk. Had been told that there was no checking up on overnight camping at Thornton Beach, the place looks really nice for an overnight stop. I also checked up on the National Park camping sites where for $5 per night I could have camped, as it happened I decided not to stay and went up as far as 2WD would allow to Cape Tribulation. Beautiful beaches at Cape Tribulation as well as the drive there was spectacular.
I decided to return to Mossman to do some grocery shopping and went on to Port Douglas to meet up with Mergatroy from the forum. I looked up Camps6 to find a free camp towards Cairns but was out of luck. Phoned up the Cairns Showgrounds to find that they no longer allowed camping there so phoned Palm Cove to find that the unpowered site for singles was $18. The nearest free camp was Babinda Rest Area so I set off and drove through Cairns, just after Gordonvale I noticed a rest area on the Mulgrave River past the bridge and to the left where there were a few vans parked. The NO had been removed from the sign leaving Camping and some were definitely staying the night. So here I am again with internet access and again free camping. John

Up the Gillies hyway ancouple of klms is a turnoff to Goldsborough. If you proceed up the road, which used to be the track up to the tablelands from Gordonvale, you get to the nat park campground. Its a beaut place in the rainforest, right beside the river.There REALLY is gold in the river!One my friends father had a mine up there before ww2. There are a few klms of dirt but it wasn,t too bad last time I was there.Its a lovely spot. Bill

Hi Bill, while you're in the area also check out mission beach Bingil bay camp ground is a great place to stop for a few days its right on the beach (camps 6 #25) another place a little south is Murray falls national park its 36 km in and a little bit of dirt but $5.25 night and the camp ground is in view of the water fall (camps 6 #27) Dennis
I did find the National Park that was mentioned and have posted with pics on the blog, it really is a nice little camp ground and for $5.5 per person it is quite reasonable. One pic below.
I will make a seperate post for Mission Beach because that is where I have ended up for the night and possibly for a week.
from cape tribulation, you can get all the way up to the cape in a 2wd if it hasnt rained. well worth the trip, over the hill to cook town is a breeze. the islanders travel up and down all the time in the dry season. not sure if you are in a hurry, or have a time schedule, you should slow down and smell the roses a bit. cheers
sorry missed your earlier post, see you have been to cooktown. good fishing in the endevour river. a croc took a bloke from there a couple of years back. (doing what he shouldnt be doing)
