How good is this I am camped at a free spot on the Norman River at Normanton with internet access right here whilst I am camping. This is the first time for months, I have had to persue the internet via internet cafe's and by parking in towns hoping for some access. The chance of me leaving the East Coast and going across the Nullabor into never neverland again is remote. I changed my plans again and went right through to Normanton a trip of around 400kms from Cloncurry plus another 60kms to get there but it is worth it, I called into the Information Centre asking about free camping and was told about the riverside just past the bridge towards Karumba on the left. I knew about it from an email from Vic but thought it best to enquire if things had changed, am glad I called in because it is free by permit and the ranger checks every morning. There is a two day limit and I intend to take that up. I was told by the Information Centre staff that a huge crocodile has taken up territorial rights to the river here so I will have to be careful fishing for the barramundi but they have left the old bridge over the river for fishermen, will check that out tomorrow.
I know the spot John - I would be absolutely paranoid about crocs in there - saw one from the little jetty on the town side - looked pretty huge to me. Hope you get your barra - are you going out to Karumba?

Gee you have covered some ground. Enjoy the Gulf country and good luck with that barra fishing. Just remember they are very quick to drag you into a snag after which you lose your gear, and the barra. Real it in fast, and you'll have fresh barra on teh plate within the hour. YUM!

Didn't make it to Karumba wasn't going to make the 150kms round tip after being told it was not worth it.
Currently in Mt Garnett the gateway to the Tablelands and expect to be in Cooktown tomorrow. Will move steadily down the coast and hope to meet up with you and Billeeee soon.
In Mt Isa at present and on the way to Kurumba but no sites available so will have to look at the free camps and see what happens, then on the way to see Billeeeeee at Mareeba if he is stillgoing to be there Ken
