My old school friend rang yesterday and immediately said 'is that Beth54?' I recognised the voice, but thought 'what the?' Then the penny dropped. She'd been lurking on GN's for a time and realised it was me!
I told my son I was joining facebook to check on what they were doing and he said that would be 'stalking' - didn't join and glad I don't know what they get up to! Lurking isn't the same as stalking though.
Yeah Carol! You leave our Beth alone. She's special, as is everyone on Grey Nomads. Come on Carol, don't be shy. Come on, just go the members page and enter the details, and come on board. We'd love to have you here.
That phone call reminded me of a voice across the shopping centre carpark. "Excuse me! Excuse me!" yelled the voice. I turned toward the voice as I locked my car, and a middle-aged lady was walking toward me and my car. She said, "Excuse me, are you the Cruising Granny on the Grey Nomads forum?" She'd spotted my personalised wheel cover. I said, "I suppose so." We introduced ourselves, walked into the food hall, ordered coffee, and left 3 hours later after a l-o-n-g chat about this lifestyle. We catch up now and then, and Sharon has since organised a Mazda bus to do the lap. Come one Sharon. Stop lurking and jump right in.

That length of time sounds just like my GN meetings Chrissy. I think last Saturday's was actually 4 hours and could have stayed longer.

It's a weird feeling to be recognised by "total strangers". They turned out to be GN friends, Aussie Cruiser. At Christmas when I camped at Lake Maraboon, near Emerald, Qld, this ute pulled up and a bloke said, "You're Granny off the Nomads". He didn't ask, he announced it. He hadn't even seen my spare wheel. We shared some bevvies around camp - of course. It's sort of like being a little bit famous.

Carrie you have already 'sussed' out Doug, I think, you have him all worked out by now, I have sat here for the last hour and a half trying to think of nice things to say about doug ??? But I could not think of anything good, so it may be better if i say nothing ??
However you will find that 'wombat' and 'dazren' will be two of the nicest guys you will ever meet, [ and we are modest to ? ] a lot of the guys on here are 'jealous of wombat, but he really is a nice, knowledgeable and helpful forumite that's why we are mates, Oh well that and the fact that he also has his own town and his own pub, If he did not have the pub, i would still like him [ but not as much ]
So welcome once again Carrie, we can teach you a lot on here ,so that you will know it all by the time you hit the road.
Lol thanks everyone this is great. V loves wombats and has quite a collection of them and calls everyone a wombat. So Im sure we will be fine.
Dazren Im sure there is lots to teach us.
Yes 54 must be a good vintage and getting better all the time.
About us ... We have been together 8 or is it 9 years both starting from nothing. We have children the same age and even had the same f....... Dog as a friend told me. We are empty nesters now in a big house.
V has lived on Gold Coast, Mt Isa, Darwin and Adelaide before coming back to Brisbane.
Me well I have lived between Port Moresby PNG and Melbourne and other places in between and Im now back where I started like within 50m. Lol
So if any of you find yourselves in this area do say hellooooooo be good to meet you.
Take care everyone
