I am delighted to be able to report that I arrived home safely at 9:20 this evening, along with my ute and new slide on camper. I reckon it has grown since I previously looked at it! And I backed the ute up under the camper myself (but with the vendor and his son guiding me of course). I will post photo/s tomorrow once there is enough light. It has been a very long day today. I wish I could wind down and get some sleep! Have others experienced mixed feelings at such a time - excitement, nervousness, exhaustion, concentration, relief, anticipation about what lies ahead, etc? Lyn.
Yes Lynnie, but you will get over that in the daylight. Congrats, well done. You will be so excited. In tomorrows daylight you will be out there inspecting every nook and cranny, might even want to sleep in it in the front yard to try it out. lol.
Well done girl! Those feelings are all normal, and will regenerate in the clear light of day. You'll sit on the verandah and look at it. You'll walk around it, several times, wondering in awe at your new rig. You'll walk down the driveway, turn around and look back at your new rig. Then you'll walk back up the driveway, and around again. Gosh it's exciting! I can feel your excitement from here. You'll feel proud, nervous, excited, a little fear of the unknown, then the enthusiasm and impatience will kick in and you'll start packing essentials, and non-essentials, will I take it? Will I need it? Where will I put it? Oooh, this is so exciting!!! Don't forget to kick the tyres and check the engine fluids. You done good girl.

When I bought my 'bus' I was staying at a friends house in Adelaide. Every time I looked out the window I thought 'I own that' its a great feeling.
That was 10 months ago. I am mow in my 'new' home and the buss is in the back yard. I have only had a few trips in it during that time (and enjoyed them all) and am currently wiring up some LED lights and a solar panel for my May trip up to Far Nth Qld, via the Gimpie gathering. I sill look at the 'bus' and think 'thats mine'.
Its all great Lynnie, I guess I'm saying I know how you feel.

Thank you all for your encouragement. Here are a couple of photos. It is a pop top camper, with the top currently down for travelling. Next step is to have the suspension sorted out. When I previously spoke to a couple of service centres about having rear air bags installed, I was told to wait until I had the unit before doing so. Lyn

Looks great!Befire putting airbags on, have a look at Ironman load plus helper springs. I installed them on the Courier, and couldn,t be happier. Besides, they were only $120, delivered, and I fitted them myself. It took about 30 mins each side. My slide on is about the same weight as yours, so they should suit your car, also.When you do go away, could you tell me your fuel figures , as I am interested.Looks great, Mate!See you on the track, soon. One question. How does the distance between the cab and the camper affect drag? Look forward to seeing it from the inside. I've seen a few of these along the way, and they all looked fairly comfortable. One was on a dual axle Nissan Patrol flat bed ute.

Well Dawa, you're just up the creek from Lynnie. I stayed at the Tocomwal van park on my way to Greens Lake at New Years. I have the river on my bucket list. To cruise it and to check out all the towns along the river from Mildura to the east. One day.

Hi Lynnie, I have air bag assistance in the rear coils of my Landrover pop top.As i sometimes tow or go offroad over long treks the vehicle weight varies accordingly.The air bags allow inflation to suit all situations.When you sit your camper in one place for a while you can adjust to have your comfortable ute ride back and not have to feel every little bump as is the case with some spring setups Cheers, Mary
Hello there Mary. Nice to hear from you. I ended up getting Air springs (with 2,200kg of load support) which can be adjusted to meet load requirements and conditions. I have not yet found out how to adjust them but will do so when I take it back to the fellow who fitted them after a month. I don't have a lot more to do now, and look forward to having my first test run. Lyn

Yes, I would like that Doug. Just let me know when you expect to be up here. I would be quite happy to show you my camper. I am very happy with the choice I have made and know that my rig set-up will work for me. It is like having a caravan but without the towing.
