Yes, lots of people do this, including some forum members. I'm sure they'll soon be here to advise, but dont hesitate to go and see Centrelink, we found them very helpful.

Would you not have a bank/credit union account where pensions are paid directly into? So being on the road wouldnt be effected.

Dick.

Pension just gets creditted to your bank a/c as per usual. I've not had any worries in over 10 years of receiving mine this way. My thanks go to the Federal treasury (no matter which party is in power). Keep up the good work.

It's only when you go overseas that you have to let them know.

If you get your mail online as well there is less to worry about. I mean Centrelink mail there. They will only have to post out anything you might have to fill in or sign and send back.

Crikey, where did you find a helpful Centrelink?  I want to go where you're going.

I haven't found too many helpful Centrelink offices around this country.  I don't know if they pretend to be thick and unreasonable, or if that's an essential criteria.

All that aside, you need to report your whereabouts from time to time to qualify for rent assistance.  To do that you need to collect a few copies of the rent report form from Centrelink to be signed by the van park staff.  You don't have to do it at every destination, but at least once a week if you're on the move.  Some offices may tell you they can't hand out the forms in advance, but they really can.  Just insist.

The pension and all the benefits are paid into your designated bank account online, and you need to keep an eye on it from time to time.

Something else to be aware of, Centrelink is inclined to send you a new pension card for every relocation, so you can ask them not to do that, but ensure they know to send you the new card in June for the next year.  I asked them not to send me new cards every time I moved, so they stopped sending me pension cards all together.

If you work along the way you'll have to tell them that as well to report the income you earn.  Good luck with that.  I can help you get through that if you need assistance.

I don't think you could count Phillip or Bribie Island as they have bridges, but you could count Kangaroo Island, even Rottnest could qualifty.

If you register with CES you can print the rent assistance form from the net.

Register when you are in the office and they will do most for you and you just enter a password. Then you can do everything on the net.

Have not requested rent assistance but my ex partner use to claim it.

Regards
Brian

Nuh, no bridge to Rotto.  I enjoyed the ferry ride as we were joined by a hump back for part of the journey.

Hi we were told about rent assistance by a lady from Centre Link, but if you own your own home it doesn't count, if you travel more then 12 months your house then becomes an Asset, so you are penalized, so if you can get rent help you are very lucky.
