I am a huge Petula fan and last saturday had the immense privilege of seeing her at the Mundaring Weir hotel in the Perth Hills.
What a performance. I try and see her each time she is in Australia and went to Sydney last time in January 2011 from memory which is quite unusual because I think it was about 2004 the previous time.
In comparrison her performance was even better this time as she had included a lot more anecdotes, cut a few verses off some of her songs, chosen songs more suited to her changing range. But having rather arrogantly made that statement what an incredible privilege to see her that time as well - she is 80 years old and a beautiful passionate entertainer. Her Sydney concert was in the lovely old State Theatre. My wonderful friends who took me the other night even organised for me to have a very quick conversation with her after the end of the show when she came out after a hot shower to sign autographs.
Wow I am impressed. I just love all the singers of those by gone years. I remember when I was about 18 I went to see Roy Orbison in Sydney. The music was fantastic but as a showman he was like watching a statue but just to be in the presence of someone I had listened to all my life was great. I also went to see Ginger Rogers at the Silver Spade room in Sydney as my parents were dancers and I grew up on Fred astaire and Ginger Rogers movies. Totally blown away I excitedly went to work and told my workmates and everyone said "who is Ginger Rogers?" I was gutted...... So glad u had a good time. Tess
That's great Ellen, it's always good to see a live show, I just love them. I try and get to see Pam Ayres when she comes to Australia, I just love her live. I too Ellen had the privilege to meet and talk to Pam for about 10 mins, something I will never forget.
Another person that's great is, Max Pelicino in "Elvis To The Max", off course you have to like Elvis to go in the first place. After about 15 mins you forget it is not actually Elvis, silly I know but there you go.

Hey Doug I love Max and Elvis and went to the Parkes festival back in the late 90's - 96 to about 2000 while people thought it was still a bit of a joke. I loved it and had my pic taken with Elvises of all different shapes, colours and sizes.
While in Adelaide I worked in mental health community rehab and took a few small groups to see Max several times. What a great job hey all paid for by the public purse - a good investment in helping people to feel like normal functional members of the community which I had no problem with. The local radio station had special promotions where you could rush to a venue and grab an autographed scarf for free. It was really exciting stuff and he is one of the best.We would pile into the community bus and the feeling of anticipation would be tremendous.
As a side issue I have several of his cookbooks and it has always been an ambition of mine to bung on an elvis feast.
Ah, those were the days. I'm quite pleased I've left the time warp. I appreciate all good music of all generations and eras, even recent music such as Ronan Keating, Pink, Jon Bon Jovi - anyone who can actually sing, whether it be ballads, blues, country (not western) and good old rock and roll.
