van aircon units

They seem excessively noisey to me, so glad I never fitted one. There is a van close to us that have been here three days and havnt turned it off. Been running ours during te day but its not hot at night. We have a 1hp houseold unit and you cant even here it running.

cheers

Yes blaze some of them can be very noisy especially the ones in the wall. We have an aircommand ibis on the roof which thankfully is a true reverse cycle so quiet to run. Cheers Glenda

Yes, thats how ours is too. Its a Heron Air Command with the motor in the front and the fan on the side wall.

We prefer to use a little electric fan heater for heating as its quicker and quieter.

I had a 1.5 HP split system reverse cycle unit fitted to the back bumper. It has inverter and I can't hear it inside when the fan is on high. I don't hear the compressor outside at all.

A couple of years ago I was on a site in Cairns and had a next door neighbour with a noisy air con that they run 24/7 even when not there. The weather was perfect at the time and I doubt that anyone else there would have been using their air cons. I did ask if he really needed to run it during the night as it was keeping me awake. I quickly got the message that he couldn't care less if he kept the whole park awake. I suspect his main reason for running it was to use up as much of the park owner's electricity as possible, he came over as the type of miserable b... that would do that.

same here but found a lot of the noise was coming from the grate over the fan

Took it off and remounted on rubber washers and reduced the noise considerably

Prior to my current van, which came equipped with a AirCommand Sparrow, I was under the impression that the rooftop mounted airconditioners were horrifically noisy.  This was based on 1st hand experience with friends who had new vans running their airconditioners.  Crikey, why are they so noisy, I thought to myself.

But when I turned on the Sparrow for the first time after taking delivery of the van, it was a totally different, and very pleasant experience.  The unit was very quiet and refined when running and I could barely hear it running, especially when standing outside.  Even my wife was relieved and thankful that the operating hum was very low.  I wouldn't even think twice about turning on the unit and leaving it on all night if I were camped next to someone.  Top marks to AirCommand for their Sparrow unit.

Don't know if the rest of the AirCommand range more powerful units are as quiet as the Sparrow, but I'm totally rapt with the airconditioning unit fitted on the A'Van Aspire 499.  It does a great job cooling down the van and appears to have a slightly lower power consumption compared to the Heron 2.2.

The unit also comes with a handy little remote control.  Quite chuffed by this extra bit of gear.  aww
