Did anyone mention the two classics

The castle

The dish

also not to forget Crackerjack (about a bowls club)

weren't they great. When we went to Bonnie Doon we saw the house and even bought t shirts from the Bonnie doon petrol station and boy were they a hit with whole family. "Ah. the serenity". Highlight of our trip to Victoria. That and seeing snow for the first time. and as for the Nugget - that just makes me want to go gold prospecting.  rocket n strop

I have to say, though, I'm not a fan of Nicole Kidman. While some of her movies are OK, most are downright waste of timers.

Is it just me, or do others find her full of hype?

I cried at the end when they interviewed those two old ladies who had been the children in the film.

You obviously don't listen to Macca on a Sunday Morning on the ABC.

Years ago Red dog was the topic of conversation periodically for a while.   People used to ring in with stories about him.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Jedda yet.  I loved that film.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Jindabyne, Ten Canoes and Lantana were 3 very good movies but didn't do all that good in the box office.

I recall Jedda was one of the first movies I ever saw and lets not forget that the worlds first feature length movie was "The story of the Kelly Gang" made in Australia about Ned Kelly & his cahoots.

Certainly agree with you there. we have it on DVD, and are amazed at how many people have never seen or heard of it.

I often quote a few lines. Most favourite is when Syl calls me for something.

My reply " I'll be in in a minute" (Samson in the field)biggrin

Wouldn't that be a reference to the Australian climate, as opposed to the British ?

I LOVE AUSSIE MOVIES....but I haven't been on the forum much for a couple of weeks so have only just caught up with this post.

Most of you have mentioned my usual favourites which are........just about every Aussie movie ever made actually....... biggrin biggrin but I would like to add a couple of my favourites that I didn't see listed...apologies if they are here and I have missed them...

The Bank...with David Wenham...brilliant!!

Another David Wenham movie...Gettin' Square...it won a few well deserved  AFI awards

Bran Nue Dae.....Ernie Dingo and Geoffrey Rush....a fun comedy/musical.

p.s. I agree with mark61 about Cosi being very underrated.
Also agree with Loffty about the original Mad Max movie with Mel Gibson.

Cheers. Pam. smile

If you do Storm Boy you have to do Blue Fin. Made at Streaky Bay but set in Pt. Lincoln featuring my ex as an extra, and my fisherman neighbour also an extra who pulls the tinny in off the beach.
There's also another movie made in Broome in the last 4 years, but for some reason I can't remember the name. It was a stage musical first, then a movie with Ernie Dingo and a couple of other well-known locals and Aboriginals.

Thanks Travel Bug. It's been bothering me for days because I couldn't remember it.
It started its life as a stage production. It was written by Jimmy Chai, an Aboriginal Chinese local of Broome.
I haven't seen it, so I'm glad you enjoyed it.

RE: australian movies - "About Schmidt"

"About Schmidt" with Jack Nicholson and Cathy Bates is on TV on GEM at 8.30 PM this coming Wednesday night (21/3/2012)

It is about his RV travels after he retires and is a hoot....my favourite scene is where he is told he is "a sad, sad man".   Well worth seeing and again if you have seen it already.
