Gerty, I am not sure about jobs as such, however I do know that if you go to www.standbycars.com.au they have a dedicated section of their website to this type of thing. Some really good deals to be had from what I have seen. Never done it, but have looked at it.

Standbycars is the place you want, we did this when we moved to Darwin.......sent my car up on a friends truck and hired a 4X4 with a roof top tent, it cost us a dollar a day for 7 days and they paid $350.00 for the fuel, which gave us the chance to have a good look about on the way, it was in 2006 so don't know if they are still doing the fuel offers as that cost has certainly risen since then.
wombat, the standbycars are only about 1.00 a day for cars and 5.00 a day for campervans or motorhomes. Plus they give you an allowance for fuel and so many days to get the vehicle to its destination.

thats only if you are returning a car for them from one place to another
You still have to get home. eg Cairns to Melbourne. They cover some of the costs, you get the drive. Then you have to get home again. It is a cheaper way of having a self-drive holiday.

Management makes the decisions, but is not affected by the decisions it makes.
If you google the larger hire companies - Britz/Maui. Kea etc, you should find they have a section that lists reloc offers. These are, by their nature, one way. The TravelZoo site also sometimes lists really good reloc offers on their weekly 20 best deals.
You might find it hard to get relocs both ways, but I guess it might happen sometimes. They tend to be used by the companies to move vehicles around seasonally. So, about March-April ish, they want people to take campers to places like Cairns, Darwin, Broome, for the tourist season there. Later in the year, those vehicles have to come south again. In late spring, campers have to be moved from the mainland to Tasmania, and vv in autumn. Don't discount doing a reloc and flying home - air fares are so cheap now.
