RE: Efudix cream

It's a native Cotton.  Also called Swan Plant.  Poisonous to livestock.  When I was a child, we had a pet goat that died from eating it.

Cheers,

Sheba.

The best thing for healing Skin, is Comfrey Ointment.  You have to make sure the area is free from any infection though, as the skin cells grow together fast, and you don't want any infection to stay under the skin.

Don't know how good the commercial stuff is though. I make my own, which I'm sure is stronger.

Click on this, then click on Comfrey.

Finally saw the doc today, she said the results were no sign of cancer, it is severe sun damage. She wants me to go back on the Efudix for another week. She said quite often it gets too much and you have to have a break but go back on as the bad skin needs to be got rid of.
She also had no knowledge of my phone call last Thursday where I was told by the nurse she would ring me back. The bleeding and severe stinging will happen, thats ok she said, it will look a lot worse before it gets better but must be done to get rid of the damage.

Hope it all goes well HW - think all of us have some skin damage - the degree of it is the worry - had a pin head sized "thing" cut out of my hand few years ago - 26 stitches later!!!!
Have spots all over - get them looked at when I go to doctor - no worries at the moment - my problem is I can't use any sort of sunscreen - I break out in eczema - tried everything under the sun - can't cover up living up here - would melt!!!!!!!!!!!1 Hey that is one way to lose weight!!

Something interesting she told me today. When you get spots burnt off, often you are left with a white shiny hollow which a lot of people don't like. But using the Efudix cream your skin goes back to normal healthy unmarked skin again even though the process is a bit more brutal.
Happy to try it to the end and see how it all goes.
I said I always using sunscreen, but she said I bet you didn't when you were a child. Which is true, a child living on a farm 30 or 40 ks out of town. I doubt whether mum had ever heard of sunscreen.

Good luck with that HW. I guess you just have to persist to get the desired result.
I mole to go tomorrow.
Then I see the surgeon on Saturday to look at my ear and plan the removal of the skin cancer. I'm a bit nervous about that one.

Good luck with the surgeon CG - will be thinking of you - might have to grow your hair a bit longer to cover the ear. Take care.

Thanks everyone. The mole is out and gone to Pathology. Stitches out in 2 weeks, and the results of course.
Surgeon consult tomorrow.

No it didn't hurt too much. The needles with the local stung a bit though.
The consult with the surgeon this morning has me going for day surgery at the clinic on Friday 16/03 to have cancer removed from ear and skin graft from behind the ear. I could be a bit lopsided after that.
They say Dr. Vu is a good surgeon for this, so we'll just have to wait and see.
The clinic is run by Malaysian doctors. GP, skin specialist, the surgeon, pathology, psychologist, and a nurse. There's also a private dental clininc but they're a bit steep.
They all seem thorough and professional. The psychologist is Indian descent, but English.

Thats not too long to wait CG, about 2 weeks. Will go very quick.
I was the same with the sting from the local when I had the biopsy. Didn't feel anything else after that.

Here's hoping. I have to admit I have been a bit shaken by the diagnosis. I'm sure I'm in good hands and I'll be ok at the end.
Thanks for your thoughts everyone.

Hi Marj sounds like you need to stay away from that cream like the said. i always get the liquid nitrogen - quick and effective.

CG I've had a few bits taken off my ear and it's always been a quick slice, taken no longer than an hour. A few months ago I got a very invasive basal cell on the tip of the ear which grew daily. The doc had scheduled me in for a week's time but I made an emergency apt as it seemed to grow daily. She got it all and I don't think there will be further problems. Apparantly the ear ones seem to be fairly self contained and discrete. So I hope all goes well with your procedure.

Yes Gerty it sure does.... leaves those hollows too but at least it's immediate and you get to scare people in the street for a few days with all the festering sores hanging off your nose and other bits.

Would scare off the whole town with the pock marks on my face and hands. 5 on my face and 6 on back of hands. Just as well I can't see my face when uptown. I would scuttle home toot sweet. They are starting to diminish now.

Re-opening an old thread on an old subject here. How's your face HW?

Am in the 2nd week of a 4 week Efudix treatment, face stings and burns and looks all red/blotchy. Its all for a good reason, and will be better when its over, but seems to go on for ages. Worst part is you have to stay out of the sun, which means I have to stay off the beach!

Hi Gerty,
glad you re- opened this thread. Have had my Efudix cream for a couple of weeks now but have not used it yet.
Made the mistake of googling it, and seeing the ugly red blotches. Need to have the entire top of my baldy head done, so mght try doing it in patches, and see how it goes.

We did my partner's pate last winter John, best to just get on with it and do the lot as recommended by your doc. His head was noticeably less spotty after it healed, and he said less itchy too.

Have had the cream 2 months but I decided to wait till June as the sun is a bit weaker and I tend to stay indoors a little more at this time of year.

Yep thanks Gerty,
Its now 35 years of seeing the skin cancer docs and i tend to get a bit blazay with all the cuts/stitches and freezing.
Just needed a gentle push to get started with this treatment.

Yes my face is completey clear after using the cream. May have to do a spot on my nose that I didn't do before as doc had taken a plug for sampling.
It came back as clear, was severe sun damage and is still very angry looking.
The back of my hands are clear and looking good too.
