Departure Day plans

Does anyone else make their trip departure a special event?

I have been planning to start my trip from the banks of the Murray River at Riverboat Dock and may even have a breakfast there (as I have several times in the past).

I have now decided that whilst there I will take a special cruise on the Paddlesteamer Canberra on which I worked for a few years. Then I will leave town, enthusiastically looking forward to what lies ahead of me.

Is that weird?

Lyn

Tess,

If you are ever in Echuca, call me, and I can prepare you one of my Lynnie's River Breakfasts. The menu normally includes:

Orange juice

Fresh fruit salad
Vanilla yoghurt

Toast
Poached eggs
Bacon
Mushrooms
Smoked Salmon
Avocado
Tomato

French fruit toast
Pears in maple syrup
Whipped cream

Tea/coffee

(I think that's all, but feel that something may be missing from main course)

Perhaps I can have Lynnie's River breakfasts all around Australia, basing them on local produce available. Just a thought.

Lyn

It's always special to hitch up and depart from wherever I've been parked. I get some form of attachment to the places I park, whether it be a few days, a few weeks or a few months or years. They are my home for the duration of my stay.
There's that swirling tummy feeling of excitement and anticipation of what I might encounter during my day's travels.
I also feel very proud, even a little smug, when park residents watch me hitch up and pull out, knowing I did it all by myself.
Good for you Lynnie. You have all that before you, and I know you'll embrace every moment, kilometre and experience with enthusiasm. Enjoy your achievement and adventures.

Sounds like the most awesome breakfast Lyn. We intend heading to Echuca in the near future for a couple of nights. Will PM you and perhaps we can meet for a coffee/tea. Whenever we headed away when the kids were little I use to make sandwiches for breakfast so we could leave early. They consisted of Egg and lettuce Carrot and cheese Ham and tomato. I still makes these when we head off on a trip. And guess what it has become a family tradition, our daughter and daughter in laws do the same thing. Glenda

Yes breakfast on the Murray would be a great departure spot. I'm at Tocumuwal myself right now - it's the first time I've stopped on the Murray. It's a mighty river alright.

Grew up on the Murray, lived in Mildura. It becomes part of you, hard to explain but when I go back to anywhere along her banks it is special.

Hi Lynnie, do you have a departure date yet?

Not a specific date, but aiming for end May - start June.
Have a few things to get in order before I go.
Am buying my ute this week - 2009 Silver Mazda BT-50, turbo diesel engine, less than 52,000km, 8 ft tray .... ticks many boxes
Are you still in the area? If so, I might take a drive down to see you once I have taken delivery.
Lyn.

Well, I have paid the holding deposit for my ute and will sign up for it over the next couple of days.
I have decided that I will just have a lockable tonneau cover on the tray for every day use when it doesn't have the camper on it. Was thinking of a canopy but that would be too cumbersome to manouvre on and off.
So of course, that is what I am currently researching!
I have decided to aim for Sunday 27-May-2012 as the big day!
You little ripper!

How long do you intend to be away for Lynnie?
I will be well and truly gone by then. Have a long list of things to do between now and April, mid April I'm hoping for.

Fantastic to have a departure date Lyn and happy celebrating. It looks like you might have most of the forum dropping in for brekkie - although how anyone could fit in all that delicious nosh in one sitting defies the imagination. My travel plans have changed recently and it could well be that I might be over your way before the end of May so could well join the starving multitudes congregating on your doorstep.

It would be great to be able to meet you.
I have this afternoon taken delivery of my ute.
Next to come is the camper, which is still being modified to comply with Australian standards (gas, power).
Best wishes.
Lyn.

How exciting Lyn. Its a great feeling to take delivery of the goods and start sorting, putting in taking out etc. Sometimes I just go and sit in it. If the neighbours see me they would think Im nuts. I love people to come and stay with me because I then go out and sleep in the van as i have a one bed place now. Im very cosy.
enjoy,
Tess
