The "Yabbies" Beth is talking about are what we call "Lobbies" in my part of the world.  They look like miniature Lobsters, nothing like what you use a Yabbie Pump for.

This is what I know as a Yabbie.

I think you are kiwi-as. But thats ok, I'd never heard of them either when I arrived 15 years ago.
Its a bit like our whitebait, the ones they have here are huge in comparison.
Yabbies are quite a good size.

The ones we used to catch in our local stream when I was a kid were fairly small, but I've also seen some about the size of my hand!

B-i-l is a dab hand at making yabbie mornay! biggrin

As kids in S.E. Qld we called fresh water crays (generic term) lobbies.  What we refer to as yabbies (usually used for bait, but can be eaten if you have enough), I think are often referred to as nippers in southern states.

I'm SEQ born and bred and we always called them yabbies. Maybe it comes down to what our parents called them. Mum was from WQ, and Dad was from Vic.

By the way JackMac, were your ears burning? Pam & I were just saying we hadn't seen you on here for awhile. You're still coming to the meet I hope? smile

Haven't really had a lot to say,(well plenty to say but not much that makes sense) but I'm still waking up every morning.  Yes I'm coming to Gympie, I booked in the other day.  For 5 days at this stage but can extend if I want.

Beth, what about inviting Cindy to the Get Together. We could pick her up from the Airport, and i am sure we could find a bed for her. What do you think.

Oh by the way we are back in NZ. Flew in last night, for our daughters uni graduation. Back over on 11th May, in time for Gympie.

Brandt.

Anyone is welcome, but I certainly will extend an invitation to Cindy. It would be great to meet her in person.

By the way fellow campers, I didn't realise when I chose the date, that the 14th is the day after Mothers Day. Sorry about that for anyone it may concern.

Is it possible to come up for a 'day visit'? Other plans mean we won't be able to come up for a longer period, but would reallly love to meet everyone, if but for a short period of time.

Can't see any reason why not Pejay. There will be so many of us there, another calls in for a hello. Sounds good to me.

I agree .. it will most likely be a situation where GN's will be coming and going over a period of days or even weeks as it was down at Greens Lake.

Last time I had to depart early and missed seeing many GN's that visited .. so this time I've booked in from the 7th for up to 2 weeks and I know that a few others have also booked in before the 14th too.

It will be good to meet more of you guys 'n gals .. then I'll be heading to Nth Qld again for the winter months ..

cya soon !

Jon

I am hoping to make it but can't confirm just yet. I'm at Pambula at the moment and heading back to Melbourne early next week. Will let you know ASAP. Thanks for the organisation, much appreciated.
