Just before you get to Ebor there is a turn off the the Dutton trout hatchery. Take this road for about 5klms. Its dirt, but you can get a 2wd in , if it doesn,t rain hard. There,s a lovely spot by the Little Styx R. Crystal clear mountain water full of small rainbow trout. Drop toilets, and no time limit. Basic supplies can be had at Ebor, and Armidale is 50klms away for big shops. One of my favourite spots anywhere.1100m high and cold at times. Up the road is a lookout at 1580m!lots of rabbits and rosellas.Bill

Went to the trout hatchery about 4 years ago when we went on our very first trip but wasn't savy with free camping back then.

Something to check out next time we are up that way.  Sounds lovely and Blue can get in some more practice with his fly rod set up.

gitsho, thats just up on top of the range above us, used to go up that way a fair bit years ago when in a 4x4 club but have not been up there for a long time,

Further allong the styxe forest way there was free camping at Wattle flat, in the forest. Mate , it will be very wet up there at the moment, 200ml ++ & still raining. Dorrigo Mt Rd is closed at the moment, Belingen is flooded & Macleay is rising so it will be very wet  from all directions.
