Well, after a very enjoyable few weeks here in Yeppoon, fishing, crabbing and making new friends, its time to continue on. Will head out to Mt Hay, west of Rockhampton to fossick for a few thunder eggs. Weather is going to be hot, hot.

Thanks Dougwe, but I guess it would have been "thunder "n" Eggs" when they were created. Should check what I write before I post shouldn't I?
Yes Joe, the forecast is for around the 35 mark and I reckon humidity will be close to 70% with that trough hanging around. Plenty of water in the pack, good sunscreen, large brimmed hat and loose fitting clothes should help make it bearable. No rushing around. Will get one cut at the park and if I find some more will take them back to Perth and have them cut there

Just logged on to GN and saw your post. We left the farm on the 20th Dec and we are in Berry S.A. at the moment and heading to Tassie for a couple of months.
Hi Jon, great to hear you are back on the road again, and I hope you have a great time in Tassy. Slowly heading south via Mt Hay, Agnes Waters and Bundaberg and then Brisbane for a couple of weeks. All is going well. Happy travelling and safe journey

I think you mean Berri on the River Murray. Or is there another place called "Berry" somewhere in SA?
Wherever you are, whatever you do, enjoy. See you out there on the road.

I love those thunder eggs. The problem is one has to know where to start looking, and know what one is looking for. I've been up in the Richmond region and I believe they're out that way. But I don't know what I'm looking for. Have fun and I hope you have all the luck in your search.

Hi C G.A novice myself, but have got the hang of it easily enough. From what I have been told by the proprietor of the place, the deposits are quite localised and only found in certain types of lava flows. The eggs here are a lot smaller than I had imagined. It seens anything over 5 centimeters is reasonably large. Much different to the 10 cm + I had been thinking of. Fossicking from 8.00am to 1130am and later from 4.30pm to 6.00pm to miss the hottest part of the day. Camping on site, all ammenities, 1 person $10 pn, unpowered

Well, quite a successful 2 days, ended up with a number of nice specimens. Had a few cut and was pleasantly surprised. Got some rather nice ones. One purple with crystaline deposits, another red with clear agate with a jasper inclusion. Also a five pointer. Will get the better ones polished back in Perth.
