The North West

We are about to purchase a 23 ft caravan, I will be towing it with a Toyota land cruiser, will this be too long to go on free camp sites, from Perth around the top to Queensland, and any advice on free camp sites would be appreciated,

Thanking you for any advice dibmau

Free camps range in size from just a small size that might take 6 campers to huge ones which can take hundreds.
Check Jonathans thread on MacQuarie Woods, that will give you some idea.
Or the condobilin thread, lot of space there too.
Photos in both.

Yep, do as Wombat says and get Camps 6

I have a Landcruiser and a 22'van and I have been through there twice, solo, and I had no problems at all.....but now days I would get there a little earlier in the day as there are thousands of people out there doing the same thing.

Might see you up there as I love it up North.

we do not do many klms a day and usually look for our overnight stop about 1300-1500 otherwise there are too many others in the freebies and you end up with the worst site there.

I would not go around that way until approx April/May from Perth, if you want to go earlier suggest go across the Nullabor and around that way to Qld.

Camps 6 also available at RAC, discount for members, or good bookstores.

Camps Australia Wide (Camps 6) can also be ordered on line.

Newsagents can get it in for you if not in store also.

I think a new edition may be getting released about Feb 2012 (Camps 7) but I am not sure.

Most free camps will be big enough for your rig.

I think CAW is realised every 2 years, so a new one (Camps 7) isn't due until March 2013.
