Ironing sans 240.

Not really relevant here, but years ago, I used to sit an iron with the Electric Cord cut off, on the combustion stove, the few times I needed to iron clothes.

Iron heats up nicely, and you can do the job just the same.

Cheers,

Sheba.

I dunno what an iron is either but you can still pick up the old antique irons that used to be heated on a fire in the days before electricity for a few dollars - mostly used for door stops now. I can just see all those classy and stylish nomads heating their irons on the camp fire while the damper is cooking and whipping through a few garments in preparation for the next days happy hour.

cheers

Best thing about the modern ones, is that they're not as heavy.

Cheers,

Sheba.

A four letter word beginning with 'w'? You mean an iron has something to do with wine?

I have an iron and small board - hey I need it for my patchwork!!!  It will only be used for another purpose in a dire emergency and there is little likelihood of that.

Here's a thought.  If you don't have an iron, then boil up the kettle then pour the boiling water into a clean based saucepan, put on lid if available, then use the saucepan as an iron.

Does collars and sleeves etc quite nicely, or so my son tells me, he hasn't owned an iron for ages.

Happiness is clean dry socks.

I always take care to buy clothes that I will be able to get away with not ironing to take away with me. Once upon a time I would not have considered wearing anything that was not ironed but I figure when I'm away no one knows me so who cares as long as they are clean

When I was working I ironed my work clothes. Since living and travelling in the tropics I can't, and won't wear anything but cotton. Mostly knitted cotton, but I do have a few tops which require ironing. I don't mind it at all.
As a matter of fact as a stay-at-home single mum I subsidised my benefits by taking in ironing. I set up the spare room with a rack to hang the shirts etc, the ironing board in a comfortable position to I could look out the window, and the stereo kept me entertained.
If I can pile it up to make it worth setting up, I can do it for ages, although the back puts a few restrictions on the time now.
Bring it on!

It's not a talent, it's tolerance and persistence. Necessity is the mother of talent.
If you're broke you'll find some way of utilise a skill to earn a quid.
That's how writing hobby turned into a one-woman journalism and public relations industry.
If I can't afford to get a tradey in to do a job, it's up to me.
I've learned more about my own capabilities than I ever thought possible, since I was a "naughty little girl" who was destined to be not much good for anything with not much support or encouragement from anyone.
It's up to me!

Yeah but also a lot of talent there as well and initiative ... and the willingness to learn and creativity. Hats off to you - I gotta say you are amazing and I think a lot of people will agree

Nah, not amazing, just resourceful and determined.
There was a time when my tool box consisted of just a kitchen knife, a tweezers and a scissors.
Just this week I showed a lady, fellow park resident, and solo person how to clean the screens of the 4-season hatches.
She'd tried several different ways, but didn't know they could be removed, cleaned and replaced.
Simple is best. Nothing is too hard if you're determined. Someone had to put it there to start with, so it can be removed and put back again.
Even the motor in your car can be pulled to bits and put back together again.
You don't need the physical strength of Dean Lukin, just a strong will and determination to get it happening. (He's not so strong these days).
I'm not a scrooge, but I can be very resourceful in my efforts to save money and do it myself.

Nothing is too great if you have the desire and the need and they both combine.

Many of us grew up with no skills and no money and now we live on the road, self sufficient (to some extent) and loving it.

I think the stereotype of what is male / female and the dependance of one on the other is gone. Not sure if it intirely desired but thats what we have now, and the in between as well LOL

I admire anyone who goes after their desires and wishes and wins as many sit back and complain while keeping in their safety net and never trying to get away or attempt something new.

I think anyone on the road experiences and enjoys life more than being stuck in a little box for their whole life.

We have our forums and happy hours but there is nothing like making your own decisions and seeing and doing what YOU want when you want.

Go CG and all the others chasing or living their dreams.

Regards
Brian

It will happen if you want it enough. Nothing is beyond us if we believe in our own abilities and are willing to learn more.
It's so much fun.
