have just read a previous thread on this topic and am thoroughly confused. when we bought our tent the salesperson told us just get a powerboard and plug it in and that's it. it would seem that this isn't correct(shock horror a salesperson not giving correct info?) so googled the suggested device and was amazed to find that it's worth $1300.00! Does this sound correct?We dont want to get electrocuted but surely there are other devices that comply with the safety standards.Am starting to think this is all too hard! so if we chose to have our own power supply what would you suggest we need? a light, a CPAP machine, a small 45 litre bar fridge( again recommended by the salesperson)probably not all running simultaneously. HELP!!
Can you imagine how milo felt at the end of that thread too, too much information can be more confusing than not enough. I wonder if you need a generator, but others will have more idea than me.
you might want to invest in a fold out portable solar panel from ebay which sell fairly cheaply and connect that up to a battery charger which will keep your 12v system topped up and have a small generator as a back up. I'm towing a caravan but am setting up my ute for bush camping so am installing a solar panel on the canopy and setting up an efficient 12v system. It would probably be good to get a fridge that runs on 240, gas as well as 12v.
If you can get by with running just one appliance off 240 when in a CP then you will save on having to buy an expensive powerboard but I would think the correct powerboard would be a good investment in the long run if oyu want to run more than one appliance off 240.
