Showers, toilets, dump point, water, pet friendly, near to the coast, mobile service, free and there appears to be no time restrictions. (7 days I see now)

Yes it will be popular but I understand it is a very large area and should accommodate several rigs.

.....or is that going to be too far north??

Oakey Creek Reserve -too far south / too cold
Leyburn.-too far south / too cold
Kenilworth = cold.
Inskip Point- There are limited sites suitable for access with 2WD vehicles, small caravans and camper trailers.
Workmans Beach Camping Area- Only suitable for small vehicles not caravans, cost is $5.50/hd, Composting toilet, town water for cold shower.

Paradise Dam- Unpowered Sites, Concrete Boat Ramp, Environmentally friendly Toilets, Covered Gas BBQ's and Picnic Shelters, Disabled Access, Drinking Water (Limited Supply),Fish Cleaning Facilities

Bradley Wolf Braeve Heart retreat near Agnes Water $5.50 /night

Wongi State Forest Park near Maryborough $5.30/night, no fires. Booking at least six weeks in advance. The grounds also contain powered camping sites, with hot showers provided.

Kenniworth Showground - The grounds also contain powered camping sites, with hot showers provided, powered sites are $14 per night per site (including GST).For sites using two power outlets an additional $3 per site per night will be charged.Caravans, caravan clubs, tent campers are all welcome.

St Lawrence is a free camp but rates a mention here as it provides free sites with really good amenities. Shower is on a timer for which you must insert $1 which gives you plenty of time for a hot shower. There is also a dump point and a free gas bbq. There is a donation box at the amenities which I'm sure everyone would want to use to show their appreciation of the facilities provided. Can't speak highly enough of the place and the volunteers who run it Amenities are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, extra charge for shower. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, open & roomy park, no permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Free camp, good bbq clean amenities in good repair, dump point, potable water source which you are invited to fill your tank from before you leave. Camp is only 1 km from hamlet
Local Information: Active bowls club has an event on most Sundays which travellers are welcome to play in. Rustic pub in town has meals on most nights. Fishing and crabbing in the area. Watch the tide as it is the second fastest in the world and rises to 9m.

Although this is a free-camp, there is a fee for showers. Amenities excellent & maintained by volunteers. There were twice weekly communal get togethers, again supplied by locals. Sunday was sausage sizzle & Wednesday was Beef Roll Night (all small charge). This is a well-used stopover for travellers, great fishing spot. Stays are limited to 7 days only. Basic supplies available in the town, where there was a general store, hotel & PO. A great friendly place where we stayed for a week. Drinking water & dump site available. Generator & non-generator areas. If windy there isn't much protection, as sites are very open.

Possibly warmer overall to what you are used to HW but it still gets quite cold in many places in June in Qld.

Now personally, I don't have any issues with the cold....in fact I prefer it BUT I understand there are many who do not like it and in Beth's instance it appears to have health implications.

Most places on dams or water of any sort in Qld save for FNQ will have and does have some very cold nights and early morning temps.

I just spent 3 months just north of Mackay July - October and some morning temps were as low as -2 degrees....still a wee bit cold for someone who does not like the cold.

Sorry about that.....Google Maps tells me it is 164 klms south of Mackay HW.

Early evenings and early mornings seems to affect me most. It's the breathing in of the cold air.

I stopped there in July. It rained so my impression wasn't good. It's very low and flat, so the water is a long way off.

What about CAW6 #107 Boynedale Bush Camp though there is not a lot on offer other than pet friendly, toilets and fireplaces.....and Big Rig friendly

HW....it is 31 klms south of Calliope

That can be said for all the beaches in NQ, tide goes out a long, long way and seems to stay out for a long, long time.

I had 9 days at Carmila right on the beach and could not get used to not seeing the water only once a day.

I personally have not been there but many,many travelers rave about it and how good it is.

That could easily happen as it did with me. I had Gunbower Island picked out for some time then along came the others with Greens Lake only a few weeks before, I had never heard of it. It was so much better than Gunbower would ever have been.

Qld does not seem to have the same sort of places as you obviously do. No dams or lakes to my knowledge are free and many are not even pet friendly.

Yes we have quite a bit overall on offer and free but not necessarily with water views and not in the more popular areas.

Then when you get away from the coastal stip, it gets quite cold in winter which is what most people are trying to escape.

St. Lawrence is about 2 1/2 - 3 hours north of Rockhampton.

Don't know of any that allow dogs. Haven't been out looking locally, but nothing I've seen on the 'net looks better than the Breave Heart Retreat.

The other places I was thinking of initially, are mostly 4x4access only, so they're out. [ Up around Baffle Creek/Deepwater areas.] Haven't been to Wartburg for years, so don't know what Baffle Bob's is like these days. I believe it's been upgraded since I lived in the area. [ Don't know what key I hit to make this happen.]

You're probably right. Where I'll be Housesitting is 2 hours north, and it's probably about another half hour north of there. Depends how you drive.
