Hate to confuse the issue further, but does anyone know what the temps are like at Leyburn, Oakey in June? I know Toowoomba/Warwick area can get really cold in winter and these places aren't that far removed.

Days are usually quite lovely, overnight and early morning can be coldish as they are both out in the open. Campfires are allowed at both.

Leyburn would be my first pick of the two.

EDIT:

Just found this bit of info on Leyburn: Winter is between June and August and maximum daily temperatues average between 16.7 and 18.6°C with overnight minimums averaging between 5 and 6.1°C. Winter days in Leyburn are moderately cool but can be moderately cold if windy, dropping to around 16.7 °C. Pack your jumper and long pants.

I've been up minding my grand-daughter today, so only getting to catch up now.

What's happened to the first page/s of this thread? They seem to have dissappeared. I was about to refresh my memory of other places that were discussed.

Oakey can be b.loody cold, don't know Leyburn, but as it's SW of Toowoomba, I'd say the same for it.

As I can't see previous pages for this thread, I have to go by memory...my original suggestion was Inskip Point, others were Wongi State Forest, Bradley Wolf Braeve Heart Retreat, Paradise Dam. There was also Workmans Beach Camping Area.

I can see the previous pages this morning and just worked out the problem. If one is writing in this box, one can only look at this page, not previous ones.

You can Google Image to see pictures of these places.

I'll probably be going to Cooloola cove again in early January, so I'll go on a day trip with my sis & b-i-l to check out Paradise Dam and Wongi State Forest.

I'll also check with a couple of people about Bradley Wolf.

Jack Mac has already given us a report on Workmans Beach, and we've both already reported on Inskip Point.

You might want to throw Amamoor State Forest into the mix as well.

Length of van is not the real issue at Inskip, it is height. We were there last year and could not get the van into the area suggested and you cannot book specific sites either.

We have stayed at Kenilworth showground.

Power, water clean amenities and a dump point.

Cost is $12 per night for a couple.

Walk to the township, pub ect and across the road from the Kenilworth cheese factory.

It can accommodate a large number of rigs of all shapes and sizes.

Yes, I think we'll have to skip Inskip...pun intended. biggrin

Mingo Crossing, at the other end of Paradise Dam, costs $17 p/n un-powered, and $23 p/n powered, or if you stay a week, you get one night free. The have all amenities including laundry.

I haven't heard back from Paradise Dam. Both these places are on the water.

Bradley Wolf Retreat, is not actually on the water. Although there's a dam and a creek. That's all I've been able to find out so far.

Just heard back from Paradise Dam.

a/ $7.50 per person per night, or $88 for 2 adults for a week.

b/ Composting toilets, no showers, no power.

c/ Dogs allowed. Must be on a lead etc.

d/ Several spots right at the lake, but early bookings essential for those. Other spots are available back from the water.

e/ Big rigs fine.

It's very popular during the winter, naturally.

Kenilworth showgrounds is a great place - the cheese factory is great, and there is a great oppy as well.

To my mind, Paradise Dam is the go. For the price, view, space.

Although it's inland, hopefully it won't be too cold as it's more northerly.

Re paradise Dam. See my previous post. Fires allowed, firewood available $6.50 per crate (no idea how big that is). Don't know about generators.

So far all I can find is the average temps for June in nearby Biggenden which is 6 - 22.

It will definitely be colder out at the dam with the wide open spaces and the chill factor from the water.

How are you with those temps and possibly a bit below Beth??

What the worry with no power.
Out at Greens Lake the only amenitiies provides was toilets. We all managed ok. Aren't we going camping?

It will be WINTER and the sun is less and as a result the solar panels do not charge the batteries as much as they do in summer.

With no power there is the need to use the gennie to top up the batteries which is must.

And no I am not exactly camping......I live in my van full time and cannot risk the batteries running too low and being damaged as a result.

Does this make sense HW??

EDIT: I forgot to mention that my partner has a medical condition that requires the use of some equipment which runs on 12/240 volt power and it is imperative that the power level is maintained.

Generators are allowed between certain hours.

Well Baroma, I'd prefer to be on the coast somewhere, as it's usually warmer than inland, but it's hard to find that perfect spot.

I think if we make it the first weekend in June, it won't be too cold yet.

And solar panels should work well at Paradise Dam, as there doesn't look to be much shade around yet.

FYI: The dam wall was only started in '05, and I'm told this camp spot has only opened in the last couple of years.

Thanks for the info re the gennies Beth. Am a bit concerned that it may well be quite cold even in early June.

Do we have to make a definite decision just yet......can't we keep it open for a bit longer in the hope that maybe something more suitable comes to light??

We still have almost 7 months before then.

Sorry, I thought Marj was the only one agreeing with me about the cold, as so many were suggesting more southerly and inland.

Yes, of course we can keep it open. It was just that if we wanted Paradise Dam it would need to be booked.
