Yes, been there several times Jules, but again, cold in June. Sorry to be dissagreeable folks, but with my Asthma I just don't want to camp outdoors in winter, unless it's more northerly.

Have to agree with Beth on this one, I used to live near Browns Plains and June, July would be so cold it was unbearable and that was in a house.

Just imagine what it would be like in a van.

I would have thought more north around the Bundaberg - Rockhampton area would have been more agreeable.

Thanks Marj, me too. Nice winter weather up there. I'd be interested if anyone has been to this Bradley Wolf to give a report. I also like the idea that it's a charitable organisation.

I agree.....but at that time of year it will be very popular and anywhere that can accommodate a number of rigs will be very difficult to find due to the influx of southerners taveling north for the winter

Re the cold......I had 3 months just north of Mackay, July to October this year and even there it got very cold....down to the minus temps and several frosts too.

I don't think you can escape the possibility of occasional cold nights/mornings even in north Qld.

If I'm reading correctly, that is the cost per night per person for a camp/caravan site with use of facilities. Of course, these are 2010 prices, so it's possibly gone up a little. I'll email them.

I think we have to aim at a "best fit" destination as nothing will be perfect for everyone.

a) Queensland
b) June
c) free or low cost
d) water to look at (coast, creek, lake or river)
e) dog friendly
f) easy access - short gravel road ok

We seem to need to decide on which part of Queensland, as although all areas will have support, we will not get 100% agreement on any one. So far I read support for SE, far north and central (sorry if I missed any).

A water tap of some sort a possiblility even if not drinkable

I found when we chose Greens Lake more came as there were toilets there, but they didn't worry to much about showers. Having access to a tap seem to take a new meaning when they all rushed out with their tap top from Bunnings to get water from the only tap there, for their showers and other washing, not for drinking.

That's what I love about this Forum.....everyone is so involved and full of good ideas.

Re: Where?.....my vote goes to Capricornia. Area 7 or 8.

Re: When?....I suggest the first weekend in June as it is not as cold then....far better for Beth's Asthma...and generally more pleasant weather for everyone else.

This has been suggested too. #114 in Camps 6. Although it says small vehicles only, and unsuitable for caravans, Jack Mac and Sheba say it changed in August this year. $5.50 per head. Cold showers only. Toilets. Tap water. Doesn't say anything about 4WD so assume 2WD is fine.

I was a Workman's in July this year. Whilst I did see Vans there don't know how extra large rigs would go. As a group get together point it may be not so suitable, only as the campsite is above the beach and to access the beach there is a downhill track that may not be suitable for those who have mobility issues. There are toilets,cold outdoor showers and drinking water available.

I was at Inskip Point in June this year. I saw all types of rigs there, motorhomes, busescaravans up to 25ft as well as tents, campers etc. In June it starts to get cool (track suit weather) about 4pm but not cold nights, a tracky and light doona was comfortable for me at night. Due to a lot of tree cover solar panels may not necessarilly work at their otimum.

Just to put another place out there. Wongi State Forest Park just north of Maryborough. C.A.W.6 #133. I went there earlier this year to have a look and the dirt road wouldn't be problem (dry, not sure about wet), well graded etc. From memory seemed to be plenty of room. On thbanks of a creek or more correctly what seem like a series of connected billabongs.

I'd had a sticky beak around Inskip recently, but didn't think to take photo's of the ground etc. My neice and friends were camped there at the time, and 2 of them had 2WD vehicles, as well as mine and nephews.

There are plenty of places one can get bogged, but there's also plenty of firm ground. You just don't go into certain sections. SS Dorrigo would be the best for the majority... accessible for trailers, caravans and buses.

I was at Sarawak. I have a 2wd and no problem. Always good idea to stop outside and walk the entry first.
