Found Smokey bay very pleasant place to stop and relax a people generally friendly with one exception someone tried to mess up our serenity by stealing the waste coupling of the van while we were there so had to buy parts to make a modified new one now works much better.

We have just spent 3 1/2 weeks at smoky bay caravan park. The sites are shellgrit, ammeneties are clean as is the adequate camp kitchen. Had an issue with the owner making a load of unnessessary noise at around dusk each night to combat what he called a bird problem. A whip was cracked an airhorn used but worse of all he used a 22calibre rifle to shoot into the trees. This was most frightening and intimadating. Some might call it entertaining we called it unnecessary noise. It went on for a good hour some nights. Because we wern't told that our $100 deposit was not refundable til the last w. eek of fees were paid we felt somewhat prisoners. Needless to say the birds were still the in the trees in the morning. As the water restrictions had been lifted from eyre peninsula last year we felt no need to be not be able to at least wash our boat and motor down. No water to be used for anything. Anyway we caught plenty of fish and had good weather. We won't be back until the park changes hands which won't be too long hopefully. Regards jean

Must agree with Jean. Found the owner to be rigid in his rules. We have a boat and enjoyed the fishing but the fact that there is only one fish cleaning station near the boat ramp is an absolute pain. Sometimes have to wait for a good 45 minutes before being able to clean your fish - of course you would not dare clean anything including your car/boat in the caravan park. We tend to spend about 3 months of the year in SA before heading to FNQ but Smoky Bay is definitely not on our future itineraries. Elliston, Venus Bay and Arno Bay are so much nicer.
