Just a catch up - the owners of said dog got back around 4pm, 7 hours after leaving the camp site in the morning. Apparently someone did say something to the managers - never heard another sound from any of them 'til we left this morning.

I am afraid that if I had been there they would have been speaking to the local council's animal control officer when they got back, about how much it would cost to get the dogs released from the local pound

Anyone who ties their dog up in a strange environment does not deserve to have a dog.  These people should be horsewhipped in my opinion.

why take your dog travelling if your just going to leave it tied up all day? just crazy, unfortunately its the actions of these type of people that make it difficult for the rest of us responsible pet owners.

 Hear hear

In fact why have a dog at all in these circumstances.

I like dogs but don't have one as I don't wish to be restricted in my travels.  If I did, I couldn't leave him/her tied up for hours at a time or put him/her in a boarding kennel for months (or even weeks) at a time.

It seems strange to me that anyone can claim to love a pet and yet treat it so cruelly.  I sometimes hear dogs that are left alone all day barking and yelping and they are so obviously lonely and distressed.
