Hello everyone,I was recommended to join this group,after reading a few pages on the forum you look and sound a happy group.Obviously I am a single person and am about to begin travelling on my own.Or should I say my two companions (see my avatar) Jaqui and Eddie.I live in Bendigo Vic and I have a 14' van,at the moment I am having a electric power mover fitted.I have a very long narrow drive way and hopefully it will help me park the van at home.
I intend to begin with short trips around Vic/NSW.I would like to go to Coobber Peedy SA next year,but feel I may like some one to go with,anyway time will tell.Maybe I will have the confidence to go alone.

Welcome Freda. I think you'll like it here. You might like to check out an ABC produced DVD called "Opal Fever" if you can find it somewhere. It's a 4 part Doco on Coober Pedy.
I found a copy in an Op-shop last week, and found it interesting. Shows different aspects of Opal mining and life at Coober Pedy.

Welcome and to you two little pets as well. You should pop up to Greens Lake just in behind Elmore over the next few days. There wil lbe at least 20 nomads vans of all shapes and sizes. There is already at least half of them here already. A great way to meet up with others and exchange ideas.
Hi Db, I also tow a small poptop van which has been all over on some very rough roads,eg Tanami.My travelling mate is a 10yro Tenterfield called Rosy-She's a top traveller and great company,You will have a great time with your mates as travel family. Cheers, Mary
welcome to the forum there are lots of folk here with varying degrees of sanity as a large portion of them are currently undergoing brain reconstruction and ufo probing at Greens Lake. There are lots of women solo travellers on here and many travelling with dogs. I have 2 fairly large ones who I am getting ready for full time life on the road.
I saw from various posts that there are quite a few nomads interested in fossicking so you will no doubt link up with them as you explore the posts and continue chatting with people.
I am very interested in the electric caravan mover you mentioned. Are they expensive and where can you get one?
Allow me to add my welcome to you. I've been to Coober Pedy. I had no expectations except a lot of dust and dirt. I wasn't disappointed. Go with an open mind, and take it all in. It's a very interesting place with it's sole purpose for being there - opals. Even the water has to be imported.

Hey Elle, the electric van mover can be quite expensive, I had a look at two different types at the Sandown Leisurfest a few weeks ago and they range fron around $2000 - $5,000 new. One was portable and remote control and the other had to be fixed to the axles. The portable one I thought was the better of the two. I too DB have a narrow drive and have to fit between two posts and even though i have a Avan camper it is too heavy to push on my own up a slight incline. I lost my licra suit with the big S on front many years ago. DOUG

Hello and thanks for the welcome,I had a look at several of the caravan movers at Sandown leisurefest having favouring the camper Trolley.Its like a robotic mover that attatches to the A frame,unfortunately it was too heavy for me to lift on and off the van (18kg) and it was the most expensive.I have chosen the purple line (brand name) that is fitted to the axcels and comes with a hand held remote control.My thoughts are Ive got a caravan that I enjoy using but if its a big problem for me getting it into the driveway when I come back from a trip I would probably stop using the caravan and become a bored little old lady...lol . So I decided b..g.r it make yourself happy. Cost of mine to be fitted is $2400,that includes caravan mover,marine battery and all electrics done.

Good for you Alfreda, good price for what you get, I looked at that one as well but decided to just get used to reversing although with a little thought I made one post at the front of my carport before the roller door removable, by just undoing one bolt top and bottom and hey presto more room to swing and reverse, it only takes seconds to remove and put back the post each time.

3 months ago I was new, set off from Tassie in a poptop camper and have since put on over 10,000Km! Traveling solo, mainly QLD at this stage (other than to & from Tassie) and have had a great time. Met plenty of interesting and friendly people who are very helpful when things don't go quite right (as they do sometimes), so enjoy the journey! Happy & safe travels!

Welcome to the site Donnybabes, I'm sure you'll enjoy and gain a lot from it. It's always good to have fresh input from different points of view too, so it will be good to hear from you on any experise experiences and you have. There are lots of very interesting and knowledgable people here with some very useful information.
It's funny you should say that about Coober Pedy CG, we were talking about it a while back. Wouldn't you think that with the money earned by the opal industry, and all the tourists wanting to go there to buy opals or try their luck there, they would spend a bit more on the place to make it a bit more inviting? The money brought into the place by the opal industry must be pretty substantial. The pizza restaurant down the bottom on the right hand side was pretty good though.
