Now we have four girls

Howard and I are quite mad.  Yes mad.  We now have a new dog, a black purebred shihtzu called Sookie.  Yes another throwaway dog, that people got tired of.  It makes my blood boil at the way humans get puppies then tire of them.

All our dogs are rescue animals,  Tuppence and Matilda (the twins) rescued from a tennant creek aboriginal camp.  Cleo (Tibetan spaniel) from the logan pound, and now Sookie, amazingly they all get on well, I guess they know deep down that they are chosen furkids, and Howard and I love them unconditionally.

I really believe these precious little animals are sent to us , I find my dogs are nicer than people lol, I enjoy the role still of caring for something, so our dogs give us that.

I enjoy being with other dog people,   .  I abhor puppy farm breeding, very nasty,

Our tibetan spaniel was a victim of this, its taken quite a while to get her happy, but with reassurance and lots of cuddles she is coming good.   She thinks the twins are her puppies,   We have found that our dogs have been instrumental in the healing process, of sadness and trials we have had as late.

When we eventually take off again, probably feb 2012 it will be kinda crazy, but I was thinking of getting a website up and running about travelling with 4 little dogs. I am not a tech person, but I will give it a go and find out how to do it.   Also would like to sell dog products, accessories etc.  Not too much fluffy type merchanise, just good commonsense products for dogs.  So I am interested in feedback as what travellers with dogs would think be an essential product.   As I said I am not into Hollywood glitz rip off products, just good wholesome products that would give value for money.

Ive knitted my girls all blankets, they love them, just out of scrap wool.  Any ideas out there would be appreciated.

Great idea Lynette.  One thing I would be interested in is knitted doggie jumpers, simple jumpers....ones that just slip over their heads.

I have had a devils own job trying to buy these in the past.

Cheers B.

Hey Lynette

yes you are mad but I reckon 4 of those little bitsy critters would probably take up less space and manic energy than my Pedro who seems to keep on growing and then I've got another fairly hefty dog as well but at least I can say i've only got two so definitely am not as loopy as you :). I've had up to 6 dogs at once, most of them rescue or pound dogs.

Practical common sense dog and other pet products are much needed. The ones around seem to be so expensive. Products for on the road would be great for us travellers. Good toys or chew products would be good. Also simple practical restrainers for hitching up to the van when in cps or free camping - different lengths for each situation. Effective foldable enclosures for large dogs - most on the market are only 2 foot high. Light weight and easily washable bedmats would be good.
I'm sure you will come up with some great ideas.
cheers

There's a great example of a good Idea for a business, going begging.   Surely some-one will grab it.     Wish I was 30 years younger.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Thanks for the input.

Considering going to Bali,  they have knitted doggie coats over there.

My intention is to bulk buy.  Howard and I will stay in a Al Cheapo, have to be before february though.

The new dog has got severe dermatitis,  grrr,  so have bathed her today with antifungal shampoo, and will be putting perioxic on.   Any other suggestions, I have a fear of Vets, generally the price they charge like wounded bulls.

Fish oil is good, given daily to help improve the skin condition Lynette.

Hi Lynette, did you check out the second link I posted a few days ago ?   Lots of free patterns there.   The first post I put up was the wrong one, so I deleted it, and posted the right one.

Here are a few examples, both knitted and crocheted.

Arent they beautiful.  The boxer looks cute, almost like a kids cardigan,  mmm

maybe that might work to, with modifications.   It looks like I am going to have to do quite a bit of research.

My friend has a lot of pekinese dogs and she loves to give them real soft toys, small ones, and has a heck of a time finding any small enough, I usually get her little baby teddies when I see them ... but that type of thing in the shape of bones or teddies might be a go......

Yep soft toys are good. We have to get the big truck first, then plastic containers for storage, its a big job downsizing, and then getting new product for this little venture, we dont intend to become millionares, but just make enough to continue travelling, eat well, so we dont get scurvy lol, our little mate Julia has made it a bit difficult for pensioners.

Agree with Sheba on all those product suggestions. We have Mum & Dad toy poodles(Jae Jae & Mindy),their two daughters(Bonnie & Bella) plus one large cat(Pussy by name). Plastic freezer bags a must for picking up what's dropped! Folding cage when hanging out washing etc. Soft toys. Rubber balls. Chewies, the lot. Gee,they're all restless to sleep with too. Just quickly on another note - it amazes me the gene trail. Mother lifts left rear leg to whatever - so does daughter, exactly the same. Dad loves catches balls,so does only one daughter.Mother hopeless at catching,so is one daughter. I get a real good laugh at all their little differences. And they do talk with different sounds too. Need an animal dictionary like they have for whales. Has anybody studied "dog-talk"?

Hey there's been a lot of scientific research on dog talk and dog vocabulary and dogs can have a vocab of anywhere up to 1000 words - here's some links below

To :Animalcarer - sorry,no idea how to put photos up. Harvey Norman prints 'em. Camera is connected to computer and photos load in and up they come. Right click and copy or something? Nah, I freely admit I'm computer illiterate. Will talk about procedure to son-in-law who is a bit of an IT nerd! Great to browse those animal talk sites.

Hi Noel, you should have a cable to upload your pics. to your Computer.   Once you have them there, when you want to post one, Click on the Reply button. Click on "Attatch Images" under where you type messages.  You'll get a dropdown box.

" Click on Browse, which should take you to programs where you click on 'pictures' in the left column on your screeen, or wherever you have you photos filed. This will take you to the file where you have all your pics.
Click on the folder, choose the particular photo you want to post, double click, and the photo you have selected will now need to be uploaded as per instructions below 'browse'.
Boom boom - you have posted a pic on nomads thread.
Keep trying, and yell out if you need more help. If I can do it, anyone can."

The above Paragraph is from an old post.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Good on you Lynette for rescuing your girls!

I was camped next to a Coaster bus at Lake Leake campground a week or 2 back and the people also had 4 little 'treasures', they were travelling all around and the dogs were quite well adjusted to the travelling life!

I am travelling with my 2 boys both Whippets aged 2 and 6 yrs, they are enjoying themselves but my younger boy, Connor, who was attacked quite badly last Christmas is still very scared of large dogs, especially if they are off lead, I had hoped that all the constant attention of being on the road and meeting lots of friendly big dogs might have relaxed him a bit but that has not happened as yet.

With your little girls you could use one of those large canvas play pens outside, that would be nice.

Annie

Thats fantastic news to hear, so it can be done phew.   Just kidding, we will do it anyway, its like this, people dont like my dogs, tuff titty,  My dogs and howard come before anything else.    Just trimmed them the other day, the little black shihtzu certainly needed it.   The weather is warming up so will be on flea patrol for a bit.  Caught a nasty toad this morning.
The canvas cot thingee,   have to look into that.  Thanks.

The best dog wash ever is 1/3 cup pinetarsel and couple of heaped teaspoons bicarb in about 2 cups water put it in a dish wash detergent bottle and pour some on and rub it in all over then rinse, don't stress if your babies change colour a little it doesn't last. It cured our dog of his Eczema and the fleas take a hike too. They also smell great as the bicarb is an excellent deodoriser.

The original recipe has oats in it as well so you can use a stocking filled with oats wet and use to do the rubbing in of the other mix, this is a very soothing wash and we have used it with fantastic results for years.

I hope you find this helpful in looking after your girlswink

If I remember correctly Pinetarsel is a soap free skin wash and you will probably have to get it from the chemist

Hi Lynette, our 2 dogs are also rescue dogs, we have had Pippa for 2 years & Bobby 2 months. Both are very wary of strangers & Bobby is very frightened of big dogs, he came from a family of 7 dogs, 2 of them German Shepherds the rest were his mother & siblings. I think he was at the bottom of the pecking order. He's neally 6 years old. Pippa was only 9 months when we got her & a terrified little girl she was. Both are very happy little dogs now & we love them to bits.
