What sort of bird is this please ?


Gday...

I had quite a few of these around my camp on the Burdekin River last week (near Charters Towers).

They are about a budgy size and even though it does not appear that well in the photo, have a blue tinge around the head.

Looks like a type of pidgeon. Have seen them before and thought that's what they were.

Could be a a dove lots of different one about look's similar..this one is a  spotted dove  said it was found in northeastern qld

It's the Peaceful Dove, the smallest of the doves.
A family of these adopted me in Carnarvon after one of the chicks was blown out of the nest.
They eat seeds and are beautiful to watch as they go about their business. They're also great parents to their young.

Cocoul pheasants have one of the most boring sounds. In the Kimberley they call them "whoop whoop birds", because they make that sound. You hear them before you see them. They graze on the ground and perch on low branches.
I called them cookoo pheasants because they are really stupid.
