MANILLA NSW

We are spending the weekend in Manilla, NSW just west of Tamworth.

What a lovely little town.  The people are all very welcoming and pleasant.  They take pride in their town as is shown by just how clean it is.

I got some great bargains in their department store which sells just about everything from baby needs to fertilizer.

Will be interesting to see what the Chicken, spinach and pine nut sausages are like when we have them for tea tonight.

The RSL has a very good Chinese restaurant and on Friday nights have a buffet and meat raffles.

Saturday markets were on this morning and whilst small by most standards I got some good bargains there too and the sausage sizzle was a bit of alright.

The Rivergums caravan park where we are staying is very nice, lots of shade and 700mtrs from the main street means that you get a good night's sleep.

The amenities are very old but spotlessly clean, I think they even give the resident green tree frog a shower most days.  Oh and it's pet friendly too.

Blue likes it here as he can put his yabbie pots in the river and can fish to his heart's content.

We will definitely come back here if we are in the area again

So is it "Mallina" or "Manilla". I'm confused.
It sounds like a happy, quaint little town. I like them. Always restful and easy going.

Gerty, I had already been up, showered, cooked brekky, packed up most things ready to move on and was on my second cup of coffee BEFORE this pic was taken

It's a very pretty part of the world. Likewise Bingara to the north, also Copeton Dam and Inverell north-east of Bingara.

We spent three nights on the river at Bingara before coming to Manilla Jim.

They were letting water out of the BOTTOM of the dam at the time so the water was extremely cold and the only fish there were carp.

Very pretty spot as you say and very popular so if you want a "waterfront" view.......GET THERE EARLY!!

If I'd drilled down through the forum I'd have seen your earlier post re Bingara. I've been on the road for several days and hadn't logged in so I missed it. I also admit to being biased re that part of the world as I lived in Inverell in the 60s and 70s.

hi MA, we visited there a couple of months ago, agree a great place, but had to have a laugh at town rivalry, we asked someone in another town what it was like before we went there and got the reply "Manilla, thats where they have 9 fingers and 8 toes because of the inbreeding" !!!!!!!!!!!! didn't see anyone there with that many digits !!! regards, gary

I've seen plenty of inter-town rivalries in the country and unfortunately it sometimes spills over from good natured humour to outright pettiness.

Well, all I can say is if they have inbreeding in Manilla then they should show some of the rest of the country the outcome.

You couldn't get nicer friendlier people.  We will certainly be going back, 6/8/9 fingers or toes or whatever.
