NT Bushfires

A FIRE burning in the Northern Territory is threatening to cross into South Australia near popular tracks used by travellers in the Simpson Desert.

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) says the large grass fire that has been burning for days in the NT is now about 15km from the state border and 80km northwest of Poeppels Corner.

CFS Regional Commander Bluey Devine says people should be aware of the risks because if the fire heads south or southeast, it could threaten the French Line and QAA tracks.

"We are concerned that these popular tracks used by locals and tourists alike may be impacted by the fire," Mr Devine said.

"If you are travelling in this region you should monitor local conditions and listen to local radio for updates.

"Travellers should also be aware that in some areas smoke may reduce visibility."

Blimey! There wasnt anything to burn when we were there! Like almost the whole country theres been good rains, now we have fires.

Hope everybody is safe, dont know where you could go if you were caught out there in a fire.

In Alice and a lot of smoke around. Drove thru it yesterday coming down from Tennant Creek. Was pretty windy overnight so I expect that didn't help. Keep safe

Lightening strikes at this time of the year up north are quite common and fires are the result. The locals are prepared for it, but be careful if you're travelling through bushfire country.
The biggest disappointment is the fires which are deliberately lit. It's the most appalling crime which threatens and destroys property and life. I hope they hang the bast.rds!
