Where do you Keep your Ferret?

Where do you go when you walk your ferret?
I've seen a lot of interesting things in my travels, but tonight will stay in my memory forever.
A couple, originally from the Gold Coast, full time nomads, carry their pets, 6 ferrets.
I kid you not. I even got to cuddle them. Kind of cute in an odd way.
They use a sand box and don't bark. They eat a high protein diet, and because of their high body temperature, they don't cope with the heat very well.
I learned all that outside the amenities block where this couple was walking the ferrets in their harness leads.
What's the oddest pet you've seen in your travels?

I used to think the couple walking their cat on a harness lead was the strangest thing I had seen, but now realise that was my inexperience !!!!

The saddest pet I saw was a lorikeet in a cage, outside of a van at Swansea NSW, calling to the wild ones in the trees. Made me cry.

I have had pet birds, but they were free range in the house most of the time.
I'd much rather watch their antics and behaviour as they get on with their lives in the wild. I have a wild bird seed block and a bird bath in my garden near my van, and I love watching the activities.
I'm a spectator of nature.

A friend of mine was arrested for taking his ferret for a walk in public.

It's not the ferret but where it's likely to be seen that's the problem.
These ferrets had fur on them too.

Ferrets do tend to smell from all the ones i have know. Very cute animals with very sharp teeth. They exude a strong scent when upset - a cross between very old socks and necrotic flesh.. Guess I have stong opinions on birds in cages - only justified when you find a baby without parents or an adult which has been injured and not fit to go out into the wild again. Yhey always have to be kept contained as they kill cats and small dogs.

Never did have a pet ferret .. but I used to take my two-legged dog for a drag around the block each night ..

 My daughter had a dog that was missing it's front right leg, when taking it for a walk she was amazed at the ammount of people who would say "oh look the dog has only one leg", she would say "no it's got three"....

I have a pet lorrikeet that I handraised from very young (his parents threw two chicks out the nest one died this one was brought to me)... I wish I could take him with us next year but I think the room in the coaster is not enough for him... so I've made arrangements for a friend to have him while we are away.. he will have free range of the house while they are at home and kids to play with... its the thought of leaving him behind that breaks my heart tho :( I could not keep him caged all the time its not fair on these birds as they need room to move and lots to play with n get into mischief!!! I'm just hopin he does not pine too much when we go... else we'll be turning right back around!!

BTW he is on my arm now helping me type and throwing all my hair bands around the desk LOLOLOLOLOLOL (say hello Charlie) lol

I love hearing people's pet stories and their experiences with animals in the wild. I've written a book about it. (Getting published is much harder).

Re: Ferrets - please keep in mind that they are illegal in Queensland (not sure if this is the case in any other states). If these people you met are travellers, they would need to know this. Ferrets, when found in Queensland, get taken and destroyed :(
