RE: Picking up Myrtle tomorrow (Friday) afternoon.

Absolutely right Vic, No way would I take advantage of their generousity. If they offer thats a different story. But wouldn't even ask.
Have had a busy day. Have cut and polished some panels. The arthiritis doesn't allow me to do too much at a time.. Laid carpet up the aisle using the old bit as a template.. Hung a curtain wire along the ceiling behind the seats for a tab top curtain. Scrubbed the grease stains off the mat that goes just inside the door. And taken some of my kitchen gear and other bits and pieces back out and stacked away.
Even have camping PJs out there now so I never forget them. Oh and bedsocks.
Just about have another pile ready to put out there. Electrical cords extensions etc, that have been sitting around here taking up room.
Will take some photos tomorrow.

Took this Pic for you today Marj.  at Emu Park, Qld.  It's life-size. There was a small ordinary mailbox for Junk-mail, opposite it.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Thats a beauty Sheba, would hold a heap of mail. Have saved it in light of the fact I haven't been up there yet to take my own photo.
Yes Smokey, Jon told me he had enjoyed your company, he gets around doesn't he???

So marj, along with the absence of oil usage, myrtle should wind up feeling more powerful, responsive, more efficient and perhaps even a bit quieter. How does she feel?

Going well jack, but does sound a bit more throaty in the exhaust if you know what I mean. Sam said that is because of the new extractors the old mechanic put in.
Now I'm wondering being a non mechanic why were new extractors put in at nearly 400 dollars, suppose it was necessary but someone should explain these things.

I'm feeling a bit down today, and don't know what to think. Lets see if I can explain this.
My neighbour told me this morning his mechanic mate said the guy I have just used is the biggest crook in town. I should have gone with ********. Well ******** is my old mechanic who didn't want to know me when I got back limping home.
Also this neighbours mechanic is the guy who did the very first roadworthy check for the car yard from where I bought it. And the list was identical to my old mechanics list. In fact he told my neighbour he gave the list to my old mechanic.
He also said he can't be blamed as he was only asked to do a roadworthy list, not check the motor. Well I've never said he was to blame. But the guy I used *********** My S.in.L. and I took it to him for the original appraisal before buying it. Surely he should have checked the motor.
Yet neighbours mechanic is saying ********** is great. As I said to neighbour. Yes of course he would say that, they are mates, drinking buddies.

Do you trust anybody these days. I just don't know anymore.

But he did say to tell me to take Myrtle over to him next week and he will see what he can do about the speedo with his contacts.

Marg, that is disgusting, I would keep well away from that original bloke and stay with Sam, they are probably trying to beat up business for the other dud mechanic. Everyone knows that if you are buying a vehicle and have a mechanic look at it, it is so they can give an appraisal of the mechanical side of it mostly.

Your neighbour doesn't sound worth knowing either and seems to be in bed with them. Put it behind you and stay with Sam, and don't trust that neighbour either.

Regards the speedo, see if you can source it from elsewhere and get Sam to install it, not the other bloke.  Your decision but I would keep well away from the original mechanic.

It is so hard Vic, neighbour is a good bloke and very helpful with household electrical stuff, anything I need doing he is the first here. He's got all the tools. Even hung those pocket things in the back of Myrtle that hold all my bits and pieces.
We've been neighbours for years. But its probably easier not to listen to that stuff as only makes me doubt everyone.

Off out now with daughter and S.in.L. Going for a drive down to Gunbower, will have photos when I get back.

Defintely won't be going back to the original mechanic at all. The wife couldn't even look me in the eye at my daughters baby shower the other week. She did look a bit embarrassed when people were asking about my trip and I had to say what went wrong and what I was having to do now re new motor.

I understand Marj, I think you just need to get away and have a good break away from all the crap around you.  Just do what you think best for yourself and Myrtle.  Unfortunately we have to rely on others and there may be an element of truth in some things but look on the bright side Myrtle is at least back on the road, albeit needing a new pacemaker! (Speedo). aww

Just smile and nod, and do what YOU feel is right Marj.

In saying that, I agree with Vic, I wouldn't go near that first bloke.

The current bloke seems to be ticking all the right boxes.

Agree with Beth. I was thinking about Sam being accused of being a crook, perhaps he charges a lot more than the dud one and therefore you neighbour considers him a crook. If this is the case, I would still prefer to go with Sam, might cost you more for the job but at least you know it is going to be done properly and probably cheaper in the long run if it is going to be fixed the first time.

Anyway, wait and see how Sam's repairs go on your next few trips, that will give you an indication of how good his work is.

Yep guys, Time I stopped listening to so many different varying opinions. It gets too confusing and I don't know who to believe anymore.
Will stick to who I've got now and smile sweetly at the rest.

Marj you can only go by how they have treated you, the original mechanic treated you with contempt by not wanting to have anything to do with Myrtle when you had problems, whereas Sam has got her going and seems to have no problems with you coming back if something doesn't seem right...  If your neighbour says anything else just inform him of this...

Keep smiling, Myrtle's got a new lease of life, Get out there and enjoy...  winkwink

Well it sounds like everyone is piddling into your ear HW, maybe justifying their own actions.
If your neighbour is helpful and supportive, he's a good neighbour and leave it at that.
If you're happy with the new mechanic who revived Myrtle then stick with him.
If you're confident enough to return to the original mechanic, then that's your choice.
I suggest using your own experiences and instinct to decide which businesses you trust with your van.
Whatever you do, don't stress about it. It's your vehicle, your experience and you have to feel confident at the end of the day, knowing your "NEW" Myrtle will be okay. If you feel confident the new guy has done the right thing by you, then sleep well with that confidence.
Not every woman is a dumb shiela. After your experiences you most certainly are not a dumb shiela. Trust your own feelings and be happy.
Just keep any eye on Myrtles oil and coolant/water, treat her with TLC and she should give you a lot of happy kilometres/miles.

Marj - go with your gut reaction - Sam sounds like he has done the right thing by you - I had the same thing here - s-i-l told me to take my car to his "mate" - since found out his mate doesn't have a very good rep - and I have met him personally, and don't like him at all, so I go where I feel they look after me properly -even though sometimes it is not convenient to get to and from.

Hope you are enjoying driving Myrtle again - and how is the expectant mum going? And the dog?
