is the census useful

I think it could be but only if we are honest. Ther were people in the park last night who refused to fill out one as they had filled it out last week before they left home. If one person did that fine, if 1000 did it??? if 100000 did it it becomes significant because that means that the decision makers are unaware of how many people are actually on the road in vans and therefore decision making about roadside stops , road spending, rest areas etc. may be made on incorrect info. Therefore i think it is important that we were honest and hopefully most were.

We did ours on line. I have seen that people who did'nt will be caught and a fined of $110.00 a day will be done, not for this black duck. And yes it is linked with any goverment listings your name is on.
Regards

I've become very cynical too in my old age. I don't think they asked enough questions in enough detail to determine anything much.
Don't hold your breath for any of those infrastructure improvements anytime soon.
In an ideal world it would make a difference, but as we keep learning, this is not an ideal world.
They have to be appearing to do something to keep in touch, but I think it was a waste of paper, printing costs and the distributors wages. Even they don't get paid very much by the hour, not the household.

We noticed the number of questions to do with unpaid work, especially caring for someone in the household who cant manage daily living activities on their own. This is an area that has been long neglected by successive state and federal governments, so we were wondering if there might be something afoot. Maybe in another few years ago we might have a disability support system that is effective!

Yep, I am with you on this one - a waste of $440 million.  Wouldn't be so bad if it did something good for us, but all it does is give politicians a bunch of numbers to sprout, and creates jobs for buerocrats.  The collectors are the only 'real' people I see gaining anything form this - a few hours (Government wage) paid work every 5 years.

Yes Rosie, The numbers can be used (and will be) to back up any arguments they like.

I have a feeling some of us will not live long enough to see any outcome from this census, even if we live another 50 years.
They pollies want to be seen to be doing, but what do they really do? Bugger all! And lots of it very well.
I hope I'm wrong.

We stayed a Mukinbudin on census night, where Tezza is currently managing. Well run, neat, clean and tidy and a credit to the Tezza's. Would recommend it to anyone. Nice town too and surrounding area.
