I feel that I am lost in a city. Vague directions with nowhere to go. I'm sure the more I use the site, the better I'll be able to get around?

Well heres a bit of trivia and itr should qualify to be totally off topic.....

I noticed the other night when a particular tyre advert was on telly that there is a blue square with a yellow upright triangle on the front right hand side of the vehicle in the primary image.....

header1.jpg

It got me wondering if it was a symbol for the Vets or some other group to recognise each other..... Nope not that...

It is actually a french idea to indicate that the vehicle is towing an object, here is an excerpt from the sitre I found it on...

(Excerpt from the http://france1940.free.fr/armee/colours.html) Another symbol often displayed was the towing sign, a yellow triangle on a dark blue square panel of roughly the same size as the service markings above (note that the white border on the example to the right is only added to give better contrast against the page background colour). While it is mentioned and correctly identified by a caption in Blitzkrieg, it is shown upside-down in the colour plates. This symbol was to be displayed, facing towards the front, by all vehicles while towing a trailer or a gun and covered or removed when not towing. As a result, this panel was very often seen on Renault UE supply carriers and all artillery tractors. Note that this was not a purely military symbol but merely a requirement of French road regulations.

G'day Vic, I missed you.

The Guru comments were just with changing the subjects bit, I'm as much a Guru as I am a fire engine.

I see you've reverted back to your old Avatar....

Thanks Grumps, that's a newie on me, yes it does look like a tac sign, and derived orignally from a military use as it says.

Thanks Gubby........ummmmm.....it's there for a reason (the old Avatar) watch that space.....changing back later. I wish the Wombat would stop using our pics on Hollywood Drive, we know we're famous and (and very humble, lol) but someone is going to blame us for his posts! Hmmm...he's been very quiet lately, might need to give his eyes a rest after his op (that should slow him down a bit.....oooopppps, what am I saying he's a fellow one eyed sandgroper, lol !
