G'Day,

Just been introduced to this site by the B.I.L. and thought we'd introduce oureselves. We are both retired, I worked in a number of Government agencies, been a truck driver both interstste and local, and worked as a building supervisor ( a fancy name foe a maintenance caretaker), a part time soldier(Engineer) for 23years. This was incidental to the most important person,my wife, Hilary, while I was doing my bits and pieces she was raising our 4 sons and looking after me.The boys have all moved on and we have time to do lots of new things. We have been vanning for a little while now and have a 1997 Jayco Starcraft and upgraded our old Camry v6 (300,000klms) to a 4wd SUV. We have just come back from a 6229klm trip to Rockhampton and back to our home in Boronia Vic. Apart from the heat up north it was a great trip. We went up the Newell and Leichart Highways and back via the Princes Highway. Heat up north, Rain in bucketsful coming back. We hope to do a few more trips shortly, and are thinking about going along the Murray River, the Great Ocean Road and visiting the Flinders Rangers. (Not all at the same time) We would be interested to here from those of you who have been to these places and what you thought and any advice that would be helpful. Sorry this ended up being longwinded.SWMBO says thats normal.

Hi Brownie and welcome to the forum mate.smile

We are new to all this in the big scheme of things but have done a fair bit of the Kimberly, up the middle and next week we are heading to Lawn Hill and Leichardt Falls and maybe head back to Darwin.

We just bought a new second hand Windsor Rapid with a shower and loo so we are doing it rather poshly this time around.

You sure have had an interesting mix of careers mate, good on you.

We both still work but that funds this habit I guess. wink

smile  Welcome Peter Pan,

Grab yourself a Camps Australia Wide 6 and you will get a lot of info on all the great places in Australia.

Re the Murray....

There are many places where you can bush camp and many caravan parks along this stretch of river on both sides. I would advise that you allow yourself lots of time to traverse this amazing waterway.

The Great Ocean road is a good trip if one takes their time and does it out of school hols as the prices skyrocket during these times. One also has to do a bit of research when traveling so avail yourself on line of the different state tourist info sites. (google them up)

have some great tripsbiggrin

Regards Dodg

Thanks for the great welcome, Dodg we have a Camps 5 book and we may have to upgrade to a 6 (5's getting a bit dogeared.) Having just celebrated MIL's 93rd birthday and are recovering from overeating. We will now settle down and begin to plan which one to start with.
Thanks again

Good camping spots. Places to go. We have been known to stay at CP's. Any info would be helpful, as noted in last post we are in the planning stage.

Thanks for the welcome

Brownie

G'day Peterpan, thought we would add our welcoming wishes to you and Hilary. Hopefully, like us, you will learn a lot of bits and pieces from everyone on this forum - they really are a lovely bunch of people.

Maybe we'll see you on the road somewhere, someday.....

Cheers

biggrinbiggrin Gidday and Welcome from me to Peterpan, this is the best forum, most here are very friendly and informative, Gee even i don't come up with much 'crap' on here ???

If i am looking for an argument,or if i want to get involved in a debate, i will go to one of the other forums, then enter a comment on Toyota vs Nissan, Petrol vs diesel vs Lpg, or Politics and boat people, and no problem presto i have a debate going !!!!

However, if i want to be calm, reasonable, receive knowledge, and be kept informed on what matters, then this is the forum to be on without a doubt,

So welcome once again, and i wish you many happy and safe travels    Dazren

Welcome aboard from me too.

Mate, I hope you don't mind but if I can give you a little hint.... break your posts up into paragraphs with a blank line between them. It makes them much easier to read.

cheers,

Jim

Just wanted to elaborate for all on the term Ginger Beer, in Army circles that is a nick name for anyone in Army Engineers........however.........in Navy circles it has a different meaning, Ginger Beer means "limp wristers" that other word starting with "Q"...... as I found out when I noticed an ex Navy bloke giving me a funny look when I told him I had been a "Ginger Beer" wink
