Been a long day........Fun at the vehicle inspection centre..

Just had the Hi Ace converted at last (no pic's yet) but first had to take it to a weighbridge and get a weight certificate.

Then I take that with the vehicle to the Motor Transport Inspection Centre, wait in long line to have the vehicle examiners inspect the vehicle....did you put in an application to convert your van?  Well no, nobody told me I had to.....Hmmm, well I'll have to check on that says the vehicle inspector.....after examining the vehicle he came back after a long absence and said, yes that is ok, go and pay for the examination and extra rego for the extra weight of the conversion now and gave me the paperwork with his tick of approval.smile

Go into the adjoining office, take a ticket and wait my turn......oh dear, we don't know what to call this, so I tell them my insurance company (I had insured it earlier by phone to drive it as a campervan) call it a motorised motorhome (no category for campervans) but am ignored by the two staff members with heads together comparing notes etc.  Oh we have to ring up our head office to find out what category you come under.....hmmm..much waiting and finally I'm told oh yes, it classed as a motorised caravan...this is the new rego paper showing the new weights etc.  Oh I say but this shows it as a Panel Van, shouldn't that show motorised caravan.....hmmmm they say, we'd better check that.....more waiting until finally, oh yes, we've corrected that now, but you will have to pay an extra $5.90 because of the extra weight.....so wait for the cashier to be free to pay my extra $5.90, trying not to scream out in frustration, not at the money but at the incompetence of the staff there. furious

Arrived at the centre at 1030 AM (vehicle inspection and office rego procedure etc) and left there at 2.30 PM.........Glad I don't have to do that everyday !!!   Think I'll go and have a Panadol (actually i did have a couple at the end of it before I left, I had a rotten headach, a nice lady from a nearby lunch bar gave me a couple of hers) and a lie down! cry

Surely this cant be the first time those people have registered a campervan? Sometimes one wonders whether they are really so inexperienced, or incompetent, or deliberately obstructionist just because they can.

Glad thats over and done with Vic. Happy travels from now on!

Gee Vic,

I thought we had all the dead heads over here.hmm

Here in Tasmania we deal with a government department optimistically named "Service Tasmania" We, the locals commonly refer to it as "NO Service Tasmania" I'm convinced that they do special training on how to stuff up the simplest task and take all damn day to do it.furious

Hope you have a great time in the "motorised camper panel van thingy."confuse

Cheers

Dusty

Well Vic, I had a good day with SA vehicle rego i have a vehicle in the back yard that hasnt been registered for 4yrs with the plates still on it. First problem nearest rego place is a 3hr round trip. Decide to ring & register but it apears you get directed to use the internet for online reg, doesnt work due to not being registered for 4yrs. After half an hour finaly get a phone No that will let you speek to some one (have to listen to music for 10 min). Finaly get through & get a very helpfull woman & in no time at all its paid, get a reciept No & told its now registered & you can drive the vehicle. Only took 45min.

Thanks everyone, to make matters worse one of the staff involved was the supposed Supervisor........A chap there I was talking too was changing the rego's on his trucks from Qld to WA rego, they weren't allowed to carry dangerous goods in WA unless they were registered here....hmmmm......he didn't look to happy either.......not the right place for happy snaps hey !

Actually I am very patient and take things calmly, glad I don't have to work there with all the grumpy old farts like me coming in etc.

I do think they could supply a few beds though so we oldies can have our "nana nap" while we are waiting, ha ha!

It's got me beat why they (them and SGIO insurance) don't have a camper van category though.....motorised caravan.....sheesh.....

They wouldn't get real jobs in the private sector. They get away with being overqualified in stupidity in these departments. When there's a stuff up, at the customer's expense, they just pass the buck to the next stupid person. And we pay their bloody wages!!!!!
I had to change my address for vehicle rego. They take my money easily for WA rego of car and van, but I needed to change my postal address. Eventually I succeeded on the phone.
Then I had to check with the ANZ Bank where my new transaction card might be since they claim it was despatched on 23/05. I don't have it yet. I called the number on the website for these sorts of queries, and the bimbo said she didn't deal with these things and handballed me to another, very not so helpful lady in "retail", who told me I should have phoned the number I originally phoned, and THAT first bimbo should have dealt with it there. I promptly reported the reception I received from the bimbo and how I came to be handballed.
I was then told they would have to cancel my current card for the interim period before my second replacement card is despatched.
I argued they needed to cancel the first despatched card which never arrived, and send another new card, and I get to keep using the current card which is due to run out at the end of the month. Bloody hell, it's frustrating!
SERVICE! Where is the bloody customer service? Why are customers considered to be nuisances in the course of their "working" day?

If I owned the "company" FF, there would be a lot of staff changes for starters......but think of how profitable it would be, a licence to make money....no pun intended. Yes it's not funny GN, some really give you the run around, the less you have to deal with these people the better but unfortunately you can't avoid it at times.....maybe in the next life........

And then there's Centrelink, but don't get me started.
Logic does not seem to prevail in these places. No one is accountable, they don't know about the world out beyond the office windows.
That WA rego thing is another case for national regos.
This pilot job definitely needs a national standard so EVERYONE is on the same page of the same Code of Conduct book. Every state has it's own little quirks.
We're overun by administrators who don't know what they're administrating or how to administrate it, whatever it is.
Then the politicians make up new policies and these confused administrators and public servants have to make the policies work.
Now imagine working for the Department of Immigration as a public servant or security contractor and caterer?

Couldn't agree more CG (ooops put GN on my last post sorry, should have been CG....must have GN on the brain!)....About time the states forgot about empire building and brought in National standards for the road rules, registrations, licenses etc, etc. Re Centrelink, I tried all day on and off recently to update my income/bank accounts etc.....couldn't get through.

The next day I rang complaints and told them they are the first people to jump on you for not giving updates on your current accounts etc and no wonder some people didn't bother if you can't get through to them.....excuse was, we haven't got enough staff trained etc, told them they needed to address that as it is their problem not mine.....I was put through immediately to an operator....glad to get rid of me I think! lol !

we had a win at licencing this week. We wanted to upgrade licence on cruiser from concession to regular (it was for sale at the time and is now sold) and then register new tug on concession. new tug is Mazda T4000 light truck, was licenced as commercial vehicle. Got told originally that we couldn't get the concession licence as it is a commercial vehicle. we told the young lady that it was going to be a tow vehicle and presented her with caravan rego papers as well. Off to discuss with supervisor who then got on phone to his supervisor and we got the cheaper licence. And the whole process took 14 MINUTES from when we walked in the door till we were back in the car and driving away. Normally it is a cut lunch and waterbag trip to go into Joondalup office.
And don't get me started on centrelink, I was called into the office for an appointment this week and was told that my medical certificate had expired and so needed to look for work. When I asked them to show me where they had a document showing medical certificate expiry date the only one they could find had an expiry date of JAN 2012!! Hello.... and they wonder why I was annoyed!!!.

When I moved to Adelaide I went to the Salisbury office to change my addresses etc. November 2nd.
Two months later I was wondering why I hadn't received any confirmation and other correspondence. So I returned to the office, spoke to another officer who looked at my file on the computer, and told me my address wasn't changed from Cairns.
It even stated I had been to the Salisbury office 02/11, but the details had NOT been changed at the time.
Jeez they have some w.ankers working there. No wonder we get cranky. We know more than they do, but we dare not correct them.
What's happening in this bloody world?
At Bunning today there were 2 checkouts open and 12 customers standing waiting to be served. They're happy to take our money, but we have to wait to hand it over. The service on the floor is brilliant, but just try and leave the store with your stuff ........

Yes, no wonder people get browned off ! Not good enough when you are playing with peoples living etc.

Hi Sufil,
I had the same procedure with my Hi Ace, it was registered as a commercial and I sold my X'Trail to my son in law, took both rego papers to Morley Transport Office and handed in his and my transfer slip for the X'Trail, they took the concession off mine and put it on the Hi Ace as a privately owned vehicle on concession rates (well 50% for me....other income) for me. Like you only took about 15 minutes, only a few people in the office at that time and quickly processed. Just as quickly they charged me $950 tranfer fee (ouch !!) for the new vehicle and said they would send my son-in-laws transfer fee out to him by post. Other than the hit in the pocket (also registered it for another 12 months) was fairly painless.

Getting the van changed to a camper van (or I should say in their lingo motorised caravan) after it was converted was another story as per my first post.

PS: Have a look at the Get To-gether post for WA.....

My sister recently applied to centrelink for some assistance, and a few days later a large envelope arrived at my place addressed to her.

It seems that Centrelink had her address listed as my place- which was true in 1985, but she hasn't lived here since then.

It took 2 more attempts to get them to change it, and Im not sure it's done yet, still waiting on today's post!

Good luck with address change for your sister.....hopefully it will be fixed. I do believe Centrelink are undermanned and cannot cope with the huge portion of the population they service. Getting through on the phone is a battle on its own.
