Ford service in Darwin

Thought I would get a quote on a 60k service on the Ranger cab/ chas. Phoned the Ford dealer in Darwin & was quoted $695. Later phoned dealer in Sydney where I bought it new & was quoted $550. Then phoned Ford dealer in Katherine & was quoted $600. Went in to the Darwin dealer to speak with the service manager with the above quotes & he agreed to match Katherine's price. A saving of $95 with two phone calls. Car is now booked in at Darwin. 1 happy camper. I know the dealers are dearer than local mechanics, but when traveling, if there is a problem & I have moved on, then I feel I have a comeback through Ford.

I don't know what a 60k service entails, but I have found Kmart quite reasonable for general servicing and I'm sure their other branches could be called upon under warranty.

We had one of our major services done at Ultratune at Causurina in Darwin.  They were very reasonable too.

When we got home we had our normal service centre check things out and he couldn't fault anything that they had done and said there was nothing that he could find that they didn't do.

We have the FordRanger too.

Yes I know I am paying over the odds, but I feel I have a level of come back with Ford if something goes amiss due to work not done or incorrectly done by a Ford service centre. Now that is yet to be tested so may be this is unjustifiable security on my part. Also as we are traveling full time you do not have the same faith in mechanics you do not know & in areas you are not familiar with, as we would if we were getting work done by our previously trusted local mechanic.

I agree with you Terry,
When we got the new tug, one of the reasons we went with Ford was the availability of Ford service centres around Australia.
