E-reader.

Went to Big W yesterday and had alook at the E-readers .   They didn't have tthe $118 one I was interested in.  Never even got it in.  The salesgirl said she thought there was a problem with that one.

Had a look at the cheaper one [$98].  Not real impressed with the size of the screen.

About 7" long, by about 3" wide.

I'll have to have a think about it for a while.

Just went to my friend Google, and got this link.   These'll take a while to check out.

Ebook Readers

E-Readers   Laptops   Mobile Phones   Graphic Tablets   MP3 Players   Electronic Dictionaries & Translators
Brand

Sorry, that didn't work.  Now I can't delete them.  Help please Cindy.

Thanks,

Cheers,

Sheba.

I've seen a few but they all seem so tiny to me. I'm certianly interested in getting some though. The ipad seems good because of it's size. But the cost is a bit a dear. I may wait until some other tablets come out and compare.

Sheba,

I have a Pico e-reader from JB Hi-Fi, was $98 and is your 7"x3" screen, however you can change the size of the font, so for me that wasn't an issue. The guy there was very helpful, and I have had no problems with it. It's really great in the van, as I don't have to carry a big wad of books with me and weight the van down.

Pejay

Forgot to say, I liked this one as it is a KISS e-reader - just what I needed!

Might have a look there next time I go in PJ.   KISS principle is exactly what I need.

Cheers,

Sheba.

The Kindle DX has a 9.7 inch (25cm) screen, about the size of a normal book page. Very tempted to get one. See amazon.com (the US Amazon site). They ship to Australia and sell for $US379 (about $360 Aust). You CAN get them from Australian sites, but the prices start from $550 and go up to a totally ludicrous $849. The Amazon site has a very detailed report/reviews etc of the big-screen Kindle and how it works. It stores 3500 books and you can get cheap magazine and newspaper suscriptions as well. Quite amazing technology. Cheers, Tony

The Kogan unit that I have is easily a good size for reading, The screen is 122mm x 90mm, I find that its about the same size as a soft cover novel, when laying in bed reading it's also the same..

It also depends on what you want it for, if it's for reading this is fine, I've no intention of using it for pictures, even though it will do them easily (but only in grayscale) any bigger unit would be uncomfortable unless you were sitting at a table..

Margaret has a 6" Amazon Kindle and loves it.
There is a HUGE difference in readability and eye strain between the Kindle type screen and an LCD screen and the Kindle can be read for several hours per day for over a week without needing to be recharged.

Cheers,
Peter

I bought a Kindle for SWMBO with which she was mightily pleased, until it suddenly carked 15 months later. Amazon didn't want to know, would not repair or replace (out of warranty) and would not even repair it and charge. I would have expected it to last a bit longer, given the $300+ it cost me for Christmas 2009. She can reload all the books she bought as long as we buy another NEW Kindle. Not happy, Jan!

Sorry gubby, but can you convert that to Inches please ?   I'm not up with the new stuff.

I'll only be using one for reading.

Cheers,

Sheba.

The unit is classified as a:

6" eBook Reader with E-ink screen

1500 FREE EBOOKS!

$149

They also have a new one the same size with a touch screen for around $150 at the moment but will be $199.

The actual screen size is 3&9/16" x 5"

Have a look at http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/category/ebook-readers/

and click on more info.  The screen is exactly the same as looking at a printed page, and you can alter the print size.

I've put this pic on for you taken beside a normal soft cover novel so you can compare the size..

We have a Kobo, a bit more expensive but user friendly so Im told.
Just a bit of an extra if you want cheap books email this bloke for a list of books
you can load the books as PDF files or download Calibre E book manager (Free) to convert an epub for your brand of
Ereader. My wife got 34 JD Robb books on disc for $10
Thank you for choosing Ebooks Headquarters!
Here is a current list of authors and their books that I have. If you'd like to place an order, please email me at ebook.hq.fl@gmail.com with what you'd like and I'll send you an invoice via Paypal! The price that you see is for the entire collection (ie: you will recieve all 13 7 Deadly Sins books for $4.00). Shipping will be free on all orders over $25 and $2 for orders under $25. Enjoy your ebooks and thanks again!
*** I am currently going through about 15,000 ebooks and adding them to this list. It's going to take me some time to complete it but I'll be sending out updates periodically.
***I am also able to get a very large collection of audio books as well. If you're interested, let me know what you'd like and I'll see if I can get it.
