RE: Summer Get Together - Gunbower Island

Hi there Ron & Shirley ..

Greens Lake is very good .. and I have seen people down there walking their dogs .. but this was winter time and hardly anybody was about at all ..

From its location, which is about 15k's east of Elmore (instead of turning left to go to Aysons, just continue ahead around that sweeping bend) it would be quite busy .. fishing and skiing etc .. and may be difficult to try and hold an area there for our use.

I still think Gunbower, because of its area, would still be the most likely spot .. I didn't notice any signs pertaining to dogs anywhere at Gunbower, but then I also didn't look as closely as Marj did ..

I'd be happy to be early and play things by ear Ron .. but I will still be going to Elmore for the rally ..

Jon

Hi Jon

We also hope to get to the Elmore HF Radio Club meet, and catch up with you again, but not committing just yet. We have camped at Green Lake a few times in the past, though never been to Gunbower.

As mentioned I have been off line for awhile and just quickly catching up on various posts.

HW talked of the National Park in an earlier post re her trip to Gunbower, and I just raised the question as a number of the forum Ladies previously have mentioned that they will be travelling with their pets.

No point turning up, to find you have to turn around and go elsewhere due to your travelling companion being banned.

I'm sure when I Googled it just after Marj suggested it, that it said in the blurb that it is Dog Friendly.   Just Google it, and check it out.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Bit of a worry isn't it. I had no idea when I googled it that part of Gunbower Island was even a National Park. Its 50 ks long and I think it said covered over 2,000 acres so plenty of room somewhere.
Maybe others can come up with alternative sites. I will be spending a lot of those months travelling around Vic anyway stopping where I can. So doesn't affect me where we stay.
I would like to go to Murrabit market on the 1st weekend of the month. Only ever been to it once. Its at the other end of the island. Just on from Koondrook.

The Cohuna CP on the Gunbower River is a gem. Pets allowed. Fishing, kayaking, birdwatching, touring. Go there often.
Cheers

Wherever is fine with me - probably bringing a friend down with me, she won't be staying, though, she is heading to Melb for a birthday or wedding or something - will drop her off in Albury or Echuca - she will get bus to Melb - and fly back - as this is a fairly casual get together at this stage, final dates will have to be confirmed closer to the time, i THINK.

Spot on Jules. It is a casual get together with everyone doing what suits them best. There is a good bus service from Echuca to Melb, only the one train in the morning though.

She used to live in Chiltern, so she is savvy with transport in the area, so no worries. Getting closer all the time.

re:mobile phones

Just remember that all and sundry can read the forum even if you are not a member.
Personally I would not put my phone number on here but would PM it to those I wish to give it to.

HW,
I like the idea of flexible dates but to help people make travel plans perhaps you could indicate the dates you will be there. Then others could work from there. It would be dissappointing to miss seeing others by having slightly different dates in mind, especially if people have to plan dates in advance. Even for a day trip it would be handy to know which day most would be there.

Look, I'm sorry if I can't be much more help with this, dates etc. I made the initial suggestion that it would be nice for whoever can, to meet up some time in the summer. And I suggested Gunbower Island as a possible starting point.
In the mean time quite a few lovely people from up north have decided to come down this way and as I suggested it doesn't warm up till November down here they have all decided early November would suit them.
I live in Victoria so what ever dates they want to get here suits me. I can't stipulate dates to people who live 1500 or so ks from here what date they should be here by. I'm not organising a rally. I am not an organiser in any stretch of the imagination.
It is only August and I have other commitments all around me.
I am looking forward to seeing anybody who comes to Vic over the summer but I am not going to organise a rally. Grey Nomads are quite self sufficient, I thought, in organising their own travel as they do all year round.
I'm not sure I like the idea that seems to be without me nobody can come to Vic and have a holiday.

At least mid nov would be better for us to return from SA, we will have to see how it all pans out.

I thought the dates (early Nov) were confirmed/ agreed some weeks back.

Lots of others have started making travel plans, some folks planning a week or a weekend. Never know, some might stay a couple of weeks.

I think there may be too many people involved to change it now..... although if someone wants to take the role of co-ordinator and negotiate with everyone (not a job I'd take on).

I'm seriously thinking of going. I'm getting itchy feet to try out the new/old caravan.

I could be there for the first weekend in November, but I have to be at Tin Can Bay by the 12th for b-i-l's 60th.

Not a role I am taking on either Rip and Rosie, I am already here and will just wait for anyone to arrive.

By the way the first weekend in November is actually 5th and 6th Nov. The weekend before is actually October. Not sure which one everyone is talking about.

Ok - my thing is I am leaving here the last week in October - intending to leave the Echuca area about 12 days after I get there - takes me two days to get down there, I reckon I will be there by 27th October - maybe 28th - will go to Marj - from there we will head out to Gunbower - now Cup Weekend comes into this time, so we will need to stake some places - Melbourne Cup Day is the first Tuesday in November - the 1st November -
This has got bigger than Ben Hur - started out I was heading down, then Travel Bug said she would like to as well. I don't travel to an itinerary, sorry, I just go as the mood takes me, sorry, so no good asking me to co-ordinate any one else - just get there when you can, stay as long as you like and enjoy the changing company -

When time is closer will put some mobiles on private messages - for co-ordination and location purposes -
That's the way I am doing it anyway- will be good to meet up with all you guys who get down.
Take carebiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I'm no good at organising either, but I don't think it needs to be organised any more than what it is.

If I'm able to go, I'll leave shortly after the 20th October, and play tourist along the way. It's a long time since I toured NSW.

I'm not an itinerary traveller either...and have no wish to be a co ordinator.

If people are going to be there around a certain time...I will be there...
Are we talking first weekend...5th and 6th Nov? or some other time.

Happy to fit in with everyone....just want some idea of which dates I'm aiming at
in order to meet up with as many as possible.

I will be ambling down, ziz zagging around as the mood takes me.
I intend leaving home ?? and coming back???
Sounds like a plan to me!!

Cheers. smile
