They certainly look after their members. When it comes to insurance shop around, do your own research and then choose based on what suits you and your needs and budget. Apia, Australian Pensioners Insurance also looks after their members. As a caravan owner I don't qualify for CMCA but I have friends who are members and join in with their gatherings and events all over the country. All the best and safe and happy travels.

That $60 includes a joining fee for the first year Milo.......$44 per annum after that and that includes a monthly colour magazine (12 per year). They are the biggest RV club in Oz with something like 60,000 members. Many caravan parks give CMCA members a discount.

I own a caravan and joined for the insurance. As well as the monthly mag, maybe a bit of an admag you get a trvellers mate, this gives you dump points and campsites all over Aus. It supplements camps australia as it has spots not covered.

I've pondered whether it's worth it for me to join as I'm not entitled to full membership. Lack of voting rights would not be a big issue for me as I'm not "into" committees and club politics. If I were excluded from any other membership benefits that would be a consideration however.
We were members when we had our MH, late 90s . They are a nice lot, very friendly and helpful.. that was when your number was only 4 digits long.... You wont be disapointed if you join....... We are not members now... caravaning is much more flexable.......

We changed our membership to "associate" after selling the Hiace camper. Used to be insured Through them as well. Find being in CMCA for the discounts alone is a good thing. ( e.g. like Tasmanian Ferry Fare Discount) Also with something like 60000 members, the forum is full of great advice. The Fellowship Directory is like a another form of insurance if you hit major problems on the road.
Below is part of a blurb from the CMCA Fellowship Site
The Fellowship Directory first appeared in the October 1986 edition of The Wanderer. Now, as then, the names listed in this Directory are those of members who are willing to be "a friendly voice on the phone" for travelling CMCA members.
Travellers may be:
looking for a good, convenient caravan park, Rest Area or campsite. In some cases you may be invited to pull in for an overnight stop - bear in mind though that many members have limited space and that they may have other guests or commitments.
in need of advice on where to obtain mechanical or technical assistance
Wem find it a good organisation to be with. Although we never go to chapter meetings or national meetings. Not our thing.
When he read the "fine print" of various insurance policies at our request, our broker concluded that, for our needs, there was no other policy that came close. But there are many other member benefits and it is likely that some will appeal to everyone.
I have only had my camper for a couple of weeks but I have already joined the CMCA. Several nomadic friends of mine belong and they all think...as others here have stated... that the benefits are great.
Okay - everyone has been so positive - we are just 'signing up' to CMCA now.
Thank-you everyone for your input. I think we are going to enjoy this forum - maybe as much as travelling. Tomorrow we are going to Narellan to look for Campers and get more ideas.

I think you won't regret it, Anvid. Another note about CMCA's Ken Tame insurance - we've never read or heard anything negative about their response to claims, but have heard lots of positives.
Best of luck finding your campervan -
Andrea

Welcome to the forum. This is a great forum with lots of very helpful people.
There is however an alternate forum to the now closed one, for CMCA members at http://www.ozerv.com . It has been set up by members for members of the CMCA.

Basically the new forum was set up by members and not the Club, because of the need for a forum. I think the new forum may answer some of your questions.

Joined up recently as for some reason that has not been disclosed to the general membership the CMCA forum has been shut down, when trying to log in now the following message is displayed
"The Board of Directors and Management of CMCA received the completed Club Forum Review on 15 August, 2012. After careful consideration and taking into account all legal recommendations, the Board have resolved that the Club Forum will not re-open."
It's a shame, I only joined a few months back, mainly for the wealth of information offered by the forum, now it's all gone.
Santa, welcome to this forum, enjoy. You will find any info you need on here. A wealth of information in all the different sections. So don't forget to browse and check them all.
Welcome 'Santa' to the Greynomads. Last year I did join the CMCA but we preferred the 'Greynomad's forum as there appears to be much more participation and a wealth of topics here.
We have learned many things from being a member here. The CMCA does send out to their members a regular magazine which was interesting especially if you enjoyed all the advertising and their insurance scheme with Kentame was also benificial.
Thanks for the welcome people, interesting info re the CMCA alternative forum, wonder why the info was not communicated to all members?, also wonder exactly what happened for them to cause them to shut up shop?
While my wife and I had five caravans over an eighteen year period, we never joined a van club or association.
We have over recent years owned two motor homes and immediately joined the CMCA, and of coarse a local chapter.
For the past three years, we have been to four rallies in three states. A tremendous way to interact with like minded people.
The benefits are well worth the fee's, Who cares weather you travel pulling a van drive a motor home or a wiz bang.
Just enjoy. Intouch, just Pass'n Thru.
