We sit under coconut trees, watching the sunset, quaffing our favourite beverages, trying to heal the ills of the world, watching the boats at anchor. NQ is a great place to be in the early winter.I am working towards heading south in the summer, and up here in the winter. all I need is to take the first step and sort out the money. Big decision.

Bill, I lived in Townsville for 4 years in the mid to late 80s and the beautiful weather is something I will always remember, but it did get boring sometimes (?).  When I was returning to Melbourne to live I was looking forward to a real winter and defiinite seasons.  However I froze when I got home and three days after I got back it snowed in the outer suburbs where I lived for the first time in many years.  I wanted to go back asap but ..........

Lamb Cawl, a winter warmer.

neck of lamb, leeks, chicken stock, carrots, celery, turnip, parsnip, potatoes, salt and pepper to taste .

Boil about 6 slices of neck of lamb with 2 good size leeks (finely chopped) for about 45 minutes.  Cube up 2 large carrots, 4 sticks of celery, 1 small turnip, 2 parsnips and. about 5 medium size potatoes.  Add about 5 chicken stock cubes and water and throw in the veggies with salt and pepper to taste.  Simmer untill veggies are cooked and serve.

You will need a large pan for this amount but it will last a couple of days and its always better on the second day.

Neck of lamb is the cheaper cut and I think, much tastier.

Enjoy

Certainly agree with you there Stan.

Might I respectfully suggest that you also post this scrumptious recipe in the "What's Cooking" section as I'm sure it will become a favourite with a lot of us.

Yes it is cooling down here in Vic.  But after all it is heading towards winter, it's a nice time of the year when we love to light a nice big fire outside to sit around and enjoy, then head off to bed to cuddle up and keep warm...   wink

Is this photo for real? It's magnificent!
In fact both photos are the stuff postcards are made of.
It was very cold out western NSW. The days were fine and warm, but the nights ...... BRRRR!
On the way home I stayed at Dalby for 2 nights to have a rest from the road rock'n'roll, and on the second night it rained - all night.
So I had to pull my wet tent down and throw it in the back of the car on the poly tarp I spread out.
I'm home now and it's still wet, but the drizzly weather here in Adelaide isn't making the drying process very successful.

Well Gilly B, you and your A Van should be among friends up in Maroochydore right now.
There are 250 A Vans assembled for a national gathering up there this week.
I met about 20 of them from SA at Dalby last Sunday on their way.

Hey Bill, As I said earlier I lived in Townsville for 4 years in the mid 80s - I will always remember the weather and the sunsets.  Someone rang the radio station here in Canberra this afternoon and said that it was snowing in Tuggeranong which is about 14Km from I am!!!! Needless to say it is brass monkeys outside and it has just stopped lightly raining.

Looks like a good one for the "What's Cooking" forum on this website if you wish to copy and paste it there where it won't get "buried" as quickly as posts do here.

Don't think I could ever live down south in Vic again - here in SE Qld cold evenings, and early mornings, but by 10am startting to warm up, last winter up here think I wore polar fleece once or twice - maybe my bones are getting too old for the southern climes, eh?

Darling Vic is such a beautiful state with much to offer like cheap rego and wonderful hospital system. Dont let the cold worry your little tootsies my darling buy Mr Webasto wonderful invention the diesel heater. Darling once you have a diesel heater you wonder why the hell you froze your bollocks off unnecessarily. Darling I love my diesel heater nearly as much as my darling little Llewellyn god bless his soul.

It doesn't seem as cold here today Bill as it has been. Although the wind has started up again now. It rained a bit last night and that warmed it up a bit. I still slept with my hottie last night though. biggrin
