I may be biased being a Victorian but a lovely area, especially if you are interested in gold mining and history. Are you sure you meant to say Malvern - this is a SE suburb of Melbourne and no-where near the towns you mentioned?

Great area you are heading for in Victoria, but boy it will be cold. Guess babies dont choose the time of year to be born, LOL.

The last few days in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne been 5-6C rising to the midteens even though it has been bright and sunny in the afternoon. Cold night air coming in about 5PM and we have had rain overnight for the last few nights. Well thats Melbourne at this time of year but out west in the Ballarat/Bendigo area it is usually much colder.

Great free camp near Daylesford at Mt Franklin (Camps 6 Vic 522). You camp on the heavily treed floor of the volcano, so your solar may struggle. Only been there in summer and as it is up quite high I would imagine at this time of year it would be pretty cold.

BTW just down the road from Mt Franklin towards Daylesford, on the right from memory, is a Chocolate factory. Some of their stuff is to die for, but it comes at a price.

Yes, but you only need a couple of those chocolates to be satisfied I find, yummy. They have a cafe there also.

Is that camp right up the top of that hill at Mt Franklin Ron and Shirley, been past but never gone up there.

Yes thats the one.

You drive up the hill and the road comes out on the floor of the volcano. You are surrounded by the rim of the volcano and camp amongst the trees (pine) though there may be a few small "clear" areas.

It all sounds so good, I can hardly wait, getting real excited just reading what you all have to say.

It doesn't matter about the weather. We have always made it a rule that no matter what the weather, rain or snow or whatever, we make the most of it and enjoy ourselves no matter what.

If you have time head over towards Ararat and see the wind farms - an amazing site, there and all round Beaufort - I love them.

Hi Ma, you should enjoy that trip, it is a great area i tour around there a lot when i go to see my father who lives in Maryborough

If you are a fan of Chowder [ especially seafood ] when you go to Daylesford the adjoining town of Hepburn Springs has a very popular cafe called The Chowder Place. it is absolutely fantastic, [ i love seafood chowder ] I cannot go up to that area without calling in for a bowl,[yum yum,] good value for money [ about $17 per big bowl ] it is served with their inhouse bread rolls,

Hi Ma and Blue,

Enjoy your trip and the Richmond show.

So good to see your plans. We head off to Ulmarra on Friday and then Taree on Monday and Casino on the 26th. Will then be home for two weeks so that Darryl can see the specialist.

We will then be heading to Bourke and - hopefully - the Darling River run. If not over to Broken hill and then to SA for the Flinders ranges then the Barossa.

Looking forward to being on the road for about 4 1/2 months.

Will keep you up to date.

Have fun you two... I've been"off the radar" for a couple of day, so have a bit to catch up on. Agree completely..whatever the weather, just enjoy.

Make sure you stop in Creswick for a cuppa at the Smokey Town Cafe. Also, between Creswick & Ballarat there is a dam with a camp site, often see someone parked there for the night, it is opposite the entrance to the Novatel Forest Resort.

I love wind farms too.
They are a silent statement to sustainability.
Like a ballet on the wind.
My daughter lives about 2 kms from the Edithburgh farm, and there are heaps on the hills west of the highway north to Pt. Pirie.
They're everywhere, and there are going to be more.

Hi CG - hows it goin? Wind farms are the way of the future surely. Friends in Beafort (Vic) live on 20 acres, in a house they built with mostly recycled products, and powered by a wind turbine and solar panels - totally self sufficient - rota loo - grow vegies etc, tanks, dams etc., most peaceful place to stay. They have an eagle who perches on top of the turbine when he visits - amazing sight to see.
