I hit an emu today

I dont do much of the driving when towing but it was me this morning when an emu committed suicide on the left corner of the bumber-bar. It literally ran straight into the car, the bush hid it until it was only a meter away, nothing I could do to avoid it. Poor emu died and its family came running around on the road, we got onto the uhf radio to warn other traffic. Very little damage to the Prado, Mr D tightened the mud-flap which had borne some impact, and we were on our way again.

It got its revenge by pooing down the side of the vehicle! Big car-clean on arrival at Coober-Pedy, had to use a bucket, in a town which normally has too little water for cleaning cars.

Now an emu is one thing I would not want to kill, beautiful birds. But they can be stupid when cars and roads are around.
Better to kill the mouse I say.

If you didn't pluck the feathers and light the BBQ up then that kill was wasted

Very sad, just another amazing creature on an amazing planet with no understanding of the road rules.

The truck driver behind me hit a roo the other morning and told me how bad he felt about it.
I dodged sheep with lambs, goats with kids, roos, emus with chicks, and pigs - some alive, some not.
It's a jungle out there!
Fresh road kill pickings wherever you go.
