Now generators is something I have done battle with.

My original generator was a 'Black Ridge' 2.5kw job from SuperCheap Auto, it wasn't silent, but at half the price of normal on special it was a bargain. It performed admirably and did some serious bush work and goat tracking. Eventually it develped an oil leak, and the diagnoses is one of the seal has giving up its grip. I've still got it (its at a mates place).

Although I've replaced it with a newie I got off eBay. Its is supposedly silent, well that's what they say - it isn't but it is a lot quieter then the previous one and seems to be going ok so far.

One thing I think that you really need to check with these damn things is the oil filling. Not so much putting oil into it, but getting it out, most recommend a change every hundred hours of operation. Now this new one I have, getting the oil in isn't a real brain buster, although getting it out is another thing again - due to the casing and where the oil bung is its impossible to get a funnel or the likes under it to drain the oil, as such it tends to go everywhere and you have a mess to clean up. Just something to consider.

Oh yeah - REMOTE START, god thats the ducks guts I tellya, no more getting out on a cold or raining night to turn the generator off (or to start it) just press the button and presto - I love been lazy :)

Hey Guys n Gals,

I have an Engel 1000 watt, has only ever been started once and it was fairly quiet in comparison to the old air cooled VW powered gensets..... Think I paid just under the grand mark for mine when I bought it.

Will be taking it up north in a couple weeks so will let you know the economy after a few runs milo...... spot on with the keeping it off the ground Yogi, helps keep the aircleaner clear.

This is mine.... http://www.engelaustralia.com.au/cgi-bin/product.cgi?item_id=shx1000&item_string=&category=Generators&sub_category=Portable
