Went to replace a freinds 80series Toyota timing belt, & on close inspection of the new one noticed that the reinforcing was on the outside of 1 tooth, pays to check new! Will be returning it & geting another one. I wonder howmany mechanics actualy check new belts befor fitting?
How many klms did you do before replacing the belt? I have a 5l in my hilux , and you are supposed to do it every 100000 klms.Neglecting to do it can cause catastrofic consquences.Excuse the spelling.

Bill,
Check in your owners handbook - it should tell you when to change timing belt. A dashboard light also should come on when due to replace. Whenever it's due, get it done a.s.a.p!
My 08 Prado is at every 150000

I change mine every 100000klms, and can do this myself. it usually takes me about 4 hrs as you have to remove the radiater(and replace), and I usually replace the indler arm as well. Mine also has the light which shows when to replace the belt. Thanks for the info.
Its take 2 weeks to sort the belt isue, still not real happy but there is suposed to be a 80,000k warranty. This ones a Daco belt, Very easy to change it & the Idler half hour job. Pic of how i removed the tension spring & refitted using screwdriver in last coil of spring.
