Hope you're all having a great Easter. There is a Scam current, which deleted both Threatfire and Microsoft Security Essentials from my Desktop, infected every programme, [I can't even play Solitaire] and then asks you to buy a clean-up Programme from MS Removal Tool.
That is the Scam. They want all your details. I had a Microsoft warning that some-one was trying to get my Credit Card details, and they also want name/addresses etc, so they're probably trying for Identity theft too.
I cannot download another Programme to eliminate it. It blocks any attempt. I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-malware onto a flashdrive, and tried to upload it that way. No dice.
So I'll have to use the laptop 'til I can take the whole unit up to my friend again. Only had a clean-up about 3 weeks ago.
I got this thing I'm pretty sure, from an E-mail from my Avon lady. All of a sudden I was getting 24 repeats of the same e-mail.
So be careful. This is why I very rarely open attatchments to e-mails, even from people I know well. It's too easy for this to happen.
Hope none of you get this problem. Needless to say, I've put the Malware Programme on the Laptop already.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Be careful of those so called free anti virus programs they are normally prototypes and are used as a field trail by the supplier for them to iron out the bugs then you get the option to buy the essentially bug free package at some time down the track I use Micro tend and never had a problem to date , Now that's done it Murphy s Law will come into play.

I have the same sort of problem from a virus that got into my computer on friday when i was reserching free camping spots.
This one puts a false windows warning page on your screen(( that you can't deleet ) called windows repair. It hides all your files and claims 30% of your hard drive has been damaged.
This virus is also trying to sell you a premium repair tool that is a fake. So will have to take my desk computer to see the docter on monday or when they re-open after Easter.
Not real happy don,t you just love these so and so's that that start Viruses
Take care Landy

Just to let you know the bug was not from me, i'm only offline (using anothers pc) because I am changing providers (going from westnet to bigpond) having to get a special device in the post and made the mistake of doing this just before easter, so now have to wait for new device etc before bigpond can be connected.
Sorry to hear about your problem, hope you manage to fix it ok,
Vic

Hi Vic,
Don't worry, I know it's not from you. As I said, it's from my Avon Lady. Luckily I can use my Laptop 'til I get the Desktop fixed next weekend.
He had just finished fixing another friends' 'puter when I rang him today, who has just had the very same problem. Seems there is a spate of Scams this weekend.
Cheers,
xina.

Would you believe today I got a call from an Asian woman, who started to tell me I had a Problem with my Computer. Needless to say, I just said "Not interested, go away." and hung up. She hasn't called back.
For every precaution we take to avoid being scammed, hacked or invaded by a virus, there is a gherkin out there devising some invasive programme which will bring all our precautions undone. I only have one email address, but the anti-virus precautions seem to be quite effective. I've been hacked on behalf of a friend's email, not him, which advertises some internet investment scheme or something. I don't open it, I just use preview to see where these emails come from, and what they contain. Then I hit the delete button. The amount of stupid people who try to con me by telling me I've got money out there somewhere in the wide blue yonder, but don't know my name, and want my banking details, is just amazing. Watch out for the stupid gherkins! They try to get you at every opportunity. Some of them are even driving cars and towing caravans.

Been off-air the last 2 days due to Viruses in both computers !!! Had them fixed, but now have to go and re-programme the Desk-top, which is a damned nuisance.
Was in the middle of downloading a Hi-ace Motor Pic. for Marj at the time. You can imagine the colour of the air here at the time.
Hope the new Anti-virus Programme does a better job this time.
Cheers,
Sheba.
