You've got a long way to go Jules. I have 1692 posts. You only have 294. Keep talking. How come I have so many, surely I'm not on here more than all you others.
Crikey - I thought I must have done thousands - not that I checked - but it seems like it - fingers get sore from speed typing - thought I am not as fst as I used to be - used to fly over the keyboard, 50 page technical quotes - I'll have to keep posting I reckon.

I thought this might turn out to be a funny and interesting topic... like "do you rate caravan parks, or public toilets?"
We rate toilets, giving them a score out of 10. Havent found a 10, it would have to have a padded/warmed seat and music etc, etc. But we found a minus 8 in a National Park whose smell made the eyes water.

Anybody else do any "rating"?
Hi Gerty, yes we do and if your minus 8 was camp 43 on Freycinet Peninsula in Tasmania then we can only concur.........what a health hazard!
Only one pie shop rates a 10 in our view & that is Brookie Pie Shop on Pit****er Rd Brookvale in Sydney(would you believe they censered p i t t w a t e r ).
It has only a small selection of about half a dozen types of pies but the tastes of them are absolutely sublime plus, the italian baker who runs it by himself has perfected the flakey pastry to a tee, & importantly their a good size too.
So far, no other pies even rate a 9 in my opinion.
I introduced Hylda to them when we passed through Sydney a year ago & she agrees holeheartedly.
Bugger! now my mouth is watering.
Cheers
Jon

I'm pretty fussy about pies. I remember a really good one in Tassie but it was so long ago I forget where it was. It'd be a 10, as far as I'm concerned.
Locally, the bakery on Redland Bay Road, Logandale Q, has a chunky steak pie I'd rate at 9. I haven't tried any other varieties. The only problem is, it's way too close for my waistline..or lack thereof!
Sorry I hijacked your thread... really thought when I read the title it would be about the other kinds of ratings.
Don't be too worried Gerty I'm enjoying this, My curiosity was cured in the first couple of replies.
The ratings on things is a good idea, the only problem I can see is some sort of order to allow people to seek the areas of Australia that they are going to be in.
Maybe a thread should be started to see if anyone has ideas. Seeing as it was your idea in the first place you should initiate that Gerty.
We also rate the bakeries Gert, especially the Vanilla Slices. Have even attended the Great Vanilla Slice Triunph in Ouyen. A marquee full of V.S's from all over Vic and S.A. Bakeries and home cooks. At the end of the day, after judging, the slices are cut up and the public are free to taste. As far as pies are concerned. The Mataranka Meat Pie is pretty memorable. Anyone else tried one of these?
pricey43, I have just added a trip to Ouyen to my list. The great vanilla slice triumph will be held on 2nd September this year. I intend going to Adelaide in August and being in being in Mildura for the country music festival late September so that just slots in nicely. Thanks for the posting. YUMMMM! I can taste those vanilla slices already

I've always wanted to go to the Ouyen Vanilla Slice Festival. Maybe this year Myrtle can take me. I will mark it on my calender.
Did you know they are called Custard Squares in New Zealand?
They were called custard slices when I was a kid, Marj. A lot of things have changed names in Qld over the years. Like peanut butter was always peanut paste in Qld. Coffee roll is now a finger bun. I suspect it's come from all the southerners who moved to Qld.
