Apology to Woolies.

In a previous thread, I made this comment.

Regardless of the fact that the stock in hand has already been paid for , the price of fuel goes up straight away, [they've already paid for it at the old price].

According to Radio and TV reports, Banana Prices have already increased a lot, even though there is still a stockpile, which has been paid for already, before the Cyclone.  How can that be fair, or reasonable ?

As of midday today however, I find I must make a HUGE APOLOGY to Woolies.

According to a report on "The Country Hour" on the ABC, Woolies is paying to the growers of the Bananas in stock, the extra profit they have been charging.

The announcer went as far as to say that this information has been checked, and verified.

Therefore Woolies, Congratulations for a change.

Cheers,
Sheba.

Very big of you to apologise Sheba.... Personally though I am always cynical of anything good that the big 2 shoppers do, we, the customers always seem to pay for it somewhere.... But then maybe I am just getting old and jaded....

I still don't like 'em Pete.  That's a one-off.  I doubt I'll ever find anything else to give them a tick for.

Cheers,
Sheba.

Good on Woolies, great to hear they are helping out the banana growers. I only bought two bananas there today as they had gone up to 5.95 a kilo. Won't hesitate to go back and buy more.

I think it all comes down to the fact that we, the customer have woken up to their profiteering practices and they can't get away with it anymore.
Don't give them too much credit.
What has their contribution been to the Premier's Disaster Fund?

I've also lost even more respect for Woollies. The Rewards card will give you discount on fuel, but you don't get rewards for the purchase of fuel. You only get the discount if you have purchase credits from the supermarket and Big W.
Coles Shell Express gives discount by the shopper dockets, and they also give you Fly Buy points for fuel and other purchases at the servo.

The rewards card annoys me too. I'm thinking of just asking for a docket and not using the card. There is no way of knowing the expiry date unless you go online and then you have to write them all down.
I checked mine tonight and found at least 6 that had expired before I got a chance to use them.

Yes I apologise to Woolies too... just this once! They werent the only ones to increase the price of bananas on the very day of the cyclone, our local independant supermarket did this too. Wonder if any other outlet paid up to the poor growers who have now lost nearly a years income?
