I just heard on the ABC news that the water supply is out on Magnetic Island and supplies of bottled water are being delivered.  Also the water supply in Townsville is only going to last another day....

Yeah, just pulled up at Girraween, and got a text saying that the water is off. This adds to the power and the mobile phones. I have a 5000ltr tank at the back of the house, if its still there. Can,t contact my neihbors as the phones are out.So I am probably better of to go fishing , instead. Will try  to contact them from a phonebox.

Just got hold of the neighbors, and told them about the water tank. The water is off in Horseshoe bay, along with the power, and the phones are patchy. I couldn,t get to Townsville even if I wanted to as the road is closed at Giru.Might have to cut the holiday short to head back early as soon as roads are open.I have a genset and the hilux is self contained with solar and big batteries, so I could help. I will see in the next few days. I feel a bit guilty going trouut fishing while at home they are struggling. We shall see.

didn,t catch any trout as it was too hot , but camped in a lovely place at Little Styx River. Cystal water , no people, and a visit from the local farmer in his4wd suzuki carry van ute! didn,t know they made them! Am at the WANDEREST free van park at the Richmond club, and would recomend it to anyone .$4 makes you a member and you get 3 nights for nothing, and they even give you vouchers for free drinks!Going over for tea and a couple of those free drinks, tonight. Off to see the big smoke, Sydney town tomorrow, by train, which is just up the road. Will post what I think. Thanks for the supprt. The power, phone and water are still off at home so i am better of here. Thanks, Bill

Smart move to go by train to the "smoke" I live in Newcastle and go to Sydney from time to time and almost always go by train.

If doing the tourist thing make use of the harbour ferries. IMHO It's as good a way as any to see the harbour.

Enjoy your break Bill. Another typical Aussie. In spite of their losses they all say the same thing, "I'm ok. Others are much worse off than me."
How bad does it have to get?
Bushfires in WA, heat waves in NSW, cyclones and floods in Qld, and now SA and Vic again.
While we live in the lucky country, I'm beginning to feel not so lucky.
It's still a free country, but not for long. Someone has to do all the work to clean up, and then someone has to pay for all these natural disasters.
Right now I almost feel guilty because there's nothing I can do, and "I'm alright Jack".
Giving money just doesn't seem enough.
